Historically and from a program perspective, Mississippi State is on the same level as Indiana and Kentucky.

Indiana made the playoff in Year 1 with Cignetti and James Madison transfers. They won the national championship in Year 2, and are probably playoff bound again in Year 3.

Will Stein is 7-1 (5-1) in Year 1 at Kentucky with a way less talented roster than we have. They have a game with Tennessee in two weeks (after a bye week) and if they win it, they are likely going to be favored the rest of the way and have an SEC Championship appearance and a playoff bid on their radar. You can see how important he was to Oregon.

Just saying, the right coach can do well at Mississippi State. High school Lebby is not the right coach. It's time to move on.

If you could guarantee Stein or Cignetti then we’d be fools not to make a move. But there are other first year head coaches as well.

Sherrill, Croom, Mullen, Moorhead, Leach, Arnett, Lebby. We are currently hitting about about .428 this century. Great at the plate, but that means we have a 57% chance to hire a bad coach. Something to consider.

We’re batting 1.000 over the past 3 years in already having a bad coach. Whatever move we make has a 100% chance of not making things appreciably worse.

So in the grand scheme of things in the NIL era, is it better to sacrifice depth for higher level first line talent or sacrifice first line talent for more consistent depth throughout the roster?

I really, really want to get Lebby packing, but I'm terrified the athletic department and Keenum will make hasty decisions, just f**k everything up and not get the right coach...or some coach who was a serviceable coordinator elsewhere, but has no clue how to hire a coaching staff or build and manage a roster now that college football is the Wild West.

So we are happy with mediocre? I whole heartedly disagree with that sentiment. We have the talent (example KT) born and bred MS, we need a coach who can get the talent in the state to stay and develop, sure some will leave for "greener" ($$$$) pastures, but if you win and have a great culture you will keep more! We need someone who wants to be here and has a track record to develop players especially QB if we can keep KT. I'm happy with another 3 year experiment on an unknown vs continuing on this track record of under development and underperformace we are on.

I don’t think anyone is happy. I just want us to do whatever maximizes 2027 and keeps Kamario here. I simply don’t think the offensive geniuses we want grow on trees and there is least a decent chance we end up with a worse coach.

I have seen us fire and hire coaches. Usually failures. I would rather ride with this dumbass for another year or two. Thank God we didn't extend him week 3. He does not deserve any raises or extensions, well over 1 year anyway. If he doesn't like it he can pound sand or field a winner. Selmon needs to be doing research on available replacements

Willing to take that chance, cause this is unwatchable for a touted offensive "genius." This is really becoming Mooreheadish (and not in a good way!). We all want our university to be successful at this but blaming admin isn't the answer the coach isn't ready and not improving the teams, I would argue we are worse than we were the first game of the year and that's outside of not have KT unde center.

Don’t say that. Don’t ever assume that.
Don’t ever assume what?

“Appreciably” was the key word. There’s not one damn bit of difference between 6-6/5-7 and 3-9/2-10 in today’s college football climate.

They are both abysmal failures. Especially in year 3. And tack on going winless against your rival in 3 years, it’s the damn bottom.

There is zero risk in firing Lebby at this juncture. The worst thing that could happen is we continue on our current path….which just so happens to also be the best case scenario from keeping him.

Under Low IQ Libby, we have not been mediocre. We have been god awful, bad, and trending back towards god awful.

The issue that I have is that Lebby is not an SEC head coach. It was apparent in Year 1, it was more apparent in Year 2 and last offseason. Year 3 got masked by a generational talent. We are likely 1-6 if KT was not on the roster. Lebby should not get a pass because he is.

Statistically we have the worst defense in the SEC again. Arnett can't do squat with the talent we have.

When I find myself looking at Baylor and NC State firing coaches midseason and thinking those fired coaches would be better than Lebby, it's apparent that we have an issue. KT's injury cannot be a scapegoat. We have no one at left tackle. The defensive line play is awful. JJ Hil hasn't been seen since ULM when he had 100+ yards and 2 TDs.

But as long as Keenum/Selmon is in charge, we probably won't do any better. Selmon is the AD version of Lebby (not an SEC athletic director) and Keenum is massively overrated and has done more damage to MSU than most realize.

We're about to do the same thing we always do. Have a ****** basketball season, look forward to baseball season and hope along the way one of our minor women's sports (see women's basketball, soccer, softball over the past decade) catches fire and has a good story for us and we convince ourselves we're fine.

Stop accepting mediocrity. If we do not become competitive in football, Mississippi State University will lose students, revenue, donations and prestige. We are a step above being Southern Miss that got an SEC invite in 1933.

I think it’s generous to say Leach was a good hire. We’re MAYBE batting 2.5 out of 7; more likely 2 of 7 (0.285).

He made it to bowls all three years. Unfortunately in year one, we had to play a 10 game SEC schedule and spring practices were cancelled which limited reps and prevented him from implementing his system. He had an overall winning record and we won 9 games his last season. He won more SEC games in one season than Low IQ Libby has won in three.

I strongly disagree. I mean, I'm not happy with mediocre but one of those is mediocre and the other is terrible.

Yeah, Leach’s first year had all sorts of stuff against him. He would’ve had another 8-9 win year in year 4 had he lived

It starts with knowing what you want and more importantly, what you need. We don’t.

Indiana knew, but I do think Kentucky is riding a little luck. I think they falter but shlt, faltering could be 9-3, I’d take that all damn day.

Indiana huh? pretty soon the media is going to try and make us all forget about how the Golden Golphers of Minnesota got their a$ses handed to them in week 2 by a bad Jeff Lebby led MSU.....at home. What you're laying-down says way more about the lack of parity in the non-sec and why coaches should avoid the sec all together. And hats-off to Stein he's doing the lord's work in Lexington, but he doesn't get any more purdues, washingtons, rutgers or NW's going down the stretch. The sec law of averages is about to come settle-up with him as well.

But I agree w/ your broader point that Lebby's not our guy. Easy sell. But in no way is a Cignetti or anyone else coming to Starkville w/ a bus full of JM kids and start knocking-off uga, bama, lsu and om.
