Call it a hunch, but I think when all is said and done, Cohen will not be the one to blame for hanging on to Joe after the Egg Bowl... It feels like there is some kind of power struggle going on, and I don’t think Cohen was the one pushing to keep Joe.

If it comes out that he was against Moorhead post EB, I’m writing a personal email to apologize to him.

That is what will come out, if anything ever comes out, and I was wrong about it too.

Not saying that Cohen has handled this whole thing well at all, and tonight is a bad look from a PR standpoint. As we saw during the baseball search a couple of years ago, it seems pretty evident that Cohen lacks tact when dealing with media in sensitive topics like coaching searches.

All that said, I don’t think he was the one that backed out after the Egg Bowl.

I just posted this in a different thread but it was Dr K that wouldn’t let JC do his job. We all have a boss and Dr K is JC’s boss.

I can believe that. Keenum was probably worried about the national spin and image of MSU firing a coach after 2 years who had not had a losing season. Would be willing to bet he was more worried about that than doing what is best for MSU football going forward. But after already dealing with tutorgate though, I bet the player fight prior to the MCB along with numerous other suspensions for the bowl game was a big turning point to change his mind on things.

The whole scene has just felt off since the EB. John has been noticeably quiet. It’s entirely plausible that an internal struggle was raging at that point.

I’ll say this for John: Though this timing and the “exploring firing JM” headline aren’t a good look, if this is him stepping up and basically telling Dr. Keenum that he deserves the opportunity to lead the program Keenum hired him to lead, good for John. If Keenum is micro-managing, then good on John for calling him on it and forcing the issue. Honestly, this has that feel, though you’ll (hopefully) never hear that said.

If I’m John, I’m using the entire bowl prep and performance (or lack thereof) as a nice, fresh picture of the culture problem in the program. On top of fight-gate, we had players suspended for part of the bowl game for academic issues...again?! Seriously? That should appeal to Keenum’s sense of pride in his university, if nothing else does. Maybe John’s working harder than most of us give him credit for. And God bless him if he is, because the work starts in earnest after you pull the trigger on JM. Now you have to hire a new coach...in January. That’s enough to make a man want to just take a pass for another year.

But Neal McCready say Keenum was salivating over Moorhead after the Egg Bowl win.
