WVU’s Wesley Harris punches fan after they storm the court. Jay Bilas made a good point on ESPN. “Players aren’t allowed in the stands and fans shouldn’t be allowed on the court.”

I agree. These stadiums need to get a better handle on students/fans who storm the court. If the BIG 12 is gonna reprimand a player then the school needs to reprimand the students.

The Big 12 doesn't have a rule against storming the court. However, there are laws against punching someone.

If you want to argue whether there should or shouldn't be court storming, that's one thing. To try to justify punching someone because he stormed the court is another. The school and students don't need a reprimand.

Speaking of laws...why don’t you see what happens if a mob of people run into you anywhere else. Someone is getting knocked the &@#% out. Those kids could’ve avoided the players but didn’t.

Let's state exactly what happened. A fan bumped a player when running by. The fan didn't stop, because his goal wasn't to attack the player, his goal was to celebrate a win. The player, who is not being threatened, who is instead just upset because he lost and got bumped, punches a fan who bumped him. There is NO law that allows you to punch someone under those conditions. Nice try, though.

Fans places are in the stands. Not on the court. Seems every Duke loss results in a court storming.

I think storming the court is stupid, and makes you look like you didn't think you belonged. I would be fine to see the NCAA put a complete and total stop to it.
I’m surprised an incident like this hasn’t happened before. Someone is gonna get hurt one day. It happens all the time now.

I can't stand the court storming. Act like you've won before and stay off the court. I remember a story in the early 2000's about a HS player who got paralyzed when the fans at a HS game stormed the court. Scary stuff

I may be wrong, but I think the Big 12 has had a rule in place for some time about storming the court. I think they fine the offending school. There was an incident a few years ago when a KState fan made contact with a KU player, or something like that, and again if I remember correctly, the Big 12 put in this fine system to try to deal with it.

I’m on the fence. On one hand, I was young and in college. Court storming is supposed to be fun. It’s just that sometimes 1) there’s idiots, and 2) someone could get hurt.

Ok so I just realized that I posted in the wrong thread which I don’t do too often but I don’t really get the point of your post when you quoted my post

My post made about as much sense in this thread as your post. Just having a little fun.

I saw where Texas Tech was fined like $25,000. That's a decent sum of money to maybe try a little harder next time. I understand the logic that punching someone is never right. But at the same time these guys are not in the right frame of mind to deal with something like that after a close loss. Its a delicate situation. I would probably pull up short of violence, but I would also be very upset if someone was running around me celebrating. And if they bumped me I might even perceive it as intentional.

Gotta keep fans off the floor.

There is no excuse for a pissed off athlete to be punching students.

Agree unless said student threatened, really provoked player, and or injured/risked injury to player with careless/risky behavior. Being a sore loser is absolutely no excuse.

Save the court storming for a rivalry game with an amazing ending, a championship or tournament winning game....get off the court if its just a good win in season against a good opponent...on home court

Since beating anyone at home isn't really a big deal anymore, seriously, everyone loses on the road, I actually think the only court-storming allowed should be road teams after a victory. Those wins are "rare" and harder to come by. Let the 100 fans who travel for a road game have their fun.

Simple solution: the home school provides sufficient and trained security staff that ropes off the court until the teams have shaken hands and are safely in their locker rooms (or at least in the tunnel to their locker rooms). That takes maybe 2 minutes. Then let the students on the court to celebrate. Otherwise Coach Roy starts taking his starters off the court at the 5 minute mark when they are losing.

When is the last time Duke fans stormed the court? Just curious
I think there were a number of kids who stormed after Dockery’s Buzzer beater. I want to say though it was Wojos senior day when we won the ACC regular season. There is an unspoken rule i believe about storming the court at Duke where it only happens after a championship?

Doesn't that only protect the players and not some 8 year old that was taken to the game? I still say stay off the court.

This is about the best solution there is but it would require more than ropes to keep kids off the court and many would still storm anyway, College kids are going to have a good time and celebrate every chance they get. Maybe along with some reasonable fine for the storming teams school if it breaks the rules should there be any. On the other side of the coin what if a 6'10" 270 pound player accidentally plows down an 8 year kid who's dad is trying to get an autograph. Or maybe Dad shouldn't have the kid on the court if a storming is possible in the first place.

Its a rather complex issue depending on how you look at it. The solution to stop fans from storming against Duke is to never lose a road game again.
