To minimize distraction for the team it would be best to announce a coach on a Sunday, not a Thursday…. unless it’s Mickey.

Why would somebody so great at something (allegedly) just quit when he’s never reached the pinnacle?

Could still be O’Brien too. Announcing that you’re going to hire away a coordinator is a lot different than somebody’s head coach. My guess is that there’s no announcement. Click bait. Well done boys.
If they announce today, its Mickey. Not buying them trying to announce someone other than the current head coach right before a game. Unless they know CT is out for the year and we are gonna run off tackle dives into benharts *** all year and call it a day. Then yeah, it wont matter.
Idk.. The grind of a college football coach and having a family probably isn't the easiest thing to balance.. He made PLENTY of money to step away and into a job making at least 6 figures... His kids are out of college now, he might have that itch again.. You can't say he's not a good coach
Petersen is not bad. I do wonder though if he's like a Mack Brown type of guy where his rocket, while still high, seems to maybe have burnt through most of it's fuel.

I think this is a coach that would definitely improve Nebraska. He is squeaky clean.
After going into this guy's record I'd be surprised if TA did not at least put feelers out.

This makes no sense.. Both are great coaches and run creative offenses. I'd be happy with either choice.
Burned out. Just what we need. Another guy looking for a golden parachute because of the ridiculous salary inflation over the last couple of years.
Even though I wouldn't understand his motivation to get back in to coaching right away.
A lot of stupidity in this thread. Both Leipold and Petersen would be great options and we could certainly do a lot worse than both of them. If it's not one of these two, our other options could be 3-9 Mickey, David Shaw, or Pat Fitzgerald, or comparable options to these. This coaching search is not going near as well as some would like to think, and our options are more limited because Trev wants to go cheap. We'd be lucky to pull a Leipold or Petersen out of this given Trev's inability to sell the program.
I'd much rather have LL over Campbell because LL runs a creative offense while Campbell runs a borderline Iowa level offense.
Some buyout agreements require the fired coach to seek out a similar position. In theory he could take an NFL assistant job to meet that requirement. Riley took that low paid job with OSU after we canned him.
One analyst made the point that Rhule has coaching buddies that will need or want new jobs and that guys like Rhule don’t want to go play golf for the rest of their life.

The NU job at hand requires a HC with a shitload of energy to try to turn this thing around.
Every aspect you look at, from a lack of performance point of view, is a problem to be addressed and solved.
A new HC doesn't have to tell the forum members the problems he will face, we're aware of a lot of the big issues.
True, but their defenses are the complete opposite. I also fear KU will keep LL's OC as HC and then what do we have?

Mickey's only a few years younger than Petersen. Why do people keep thinking he will be a coach-in-waiting? He's almost 55 years old. Unless we hire Mack Brown or another 70 year old coach, Mickey will not be coach-in-waiting.
