A couple times tonight he sounded extremely frustrated with UK's struggles. He has been very critical this year and rightfully so. Maybe because he once was an assistant here. Him busting Cal verbally over the best shooter wearing a mask as they showed Allen on the bench in the last minute... Jimmy seems a bit fed up with Cal's stubbornness too. I don't know... correct me fellas if I'm off on this one! I, unlike Cal, am fine with something called accountability.

Dykes is deep down a fan of Kentucky. He has always been very complimentary of the Kentucky program. He has first hand knowledge of what it’s like here because he coached here. I bet it somewhat pains him to see Kentucky in this mess.
Makes me wanna punch him in the nuts.

Jimmy is a fan of Kentucky, he’s not happy with this team.
I don't like Jimmy as an announcer, BUT, I absolutely respect his acumen and analysis. Its his delivery of it I guess that drives me nuts. Tony Romo doesn't go overboard, he just explains things. Dykes is almost like TV Teddy with it "look at me look at me!"
I think he’s the most insightful analyst on TV. Who would you rather hear call a game?

Dykes is a lot like Gary Danielson. Both good guys that know a ton about their respective sports, but can go a little overboard in their explanations. Dykes gets really frustrated when he sees wasted potential or lack of discipline. I’ve noticed that when he has called our games.

Jimmy has always liked UK, he knows this is terrible more for BBN then the players or coaches. We live and die with the Cats, and this year we are eating crow. Hopefully a temp situation, but Jimmy knows Cal can do better.

Dykes is prob my favorite. I have no issue with him calling Cal or this team out, that criticism is well deserved right now. Dude pines for UK all the time.
I don't know about Dykes, but it sure in Hell pains me and a lot of other UK fans. I NEVER dreamed I would ever see UK in this kind of mess. I know a lot of Cal Suckers don't have a problem with it, but most TRUE UK fans do. We are fans of UK first, and the coach, second. We don't like cheating, so that's why some coaches in the past were let go, we don't like losing, so that's why some coaches in the past were let go, we don't think any coach is better then UK, so that's why another coach was let go.
I would say that 90% of the UK fans are very knowledgeable about basketball, and a high percentage of them have played high school basketball and coached. When in grade school, they were taught basics, and then played Jr. Varsity, and Varsity. In the 50's and 60's, most schools not in the larger cities, had very small attendance. In the mountains, where I grew up, so many schools were merged into one in the 70's and 80's. Schools like Carr Creek, Hindman, Oil Springs, and others were merged. My high school class had 11 boys in it, and 8 of us played high school basketball. It was the same all over Kentucky in those years. We didn't have enough players for football, and Wolfe County does not have a football team today. A lot of the small schools are like that.
Times are different today. In the 50's and 60's, there were no cell phones, computers or four wheelers, but we all had basketballs, and were ready for a "pickup game." I love the old ways.

I couldn't disagree more. Dykes knows the game and makes comments, backs up his observations explaining what he sees going on during the game, and did an excellent job of explaining why we suck. Plus, he isn't afraid (despite some saying he is a homer) of saying things that are wrong with what is occurring and not being a "yes" man like Vitale tends to do (even though I like Vitale's enthusiasm).
Dykes even called out Boston with his diagram of A's on how he is not a current NBA prospect. That was what we all agree upon here but pretty ballsy nevertheless.
Jimmy Dykes is one of my favorite announcers and I know he gets a little carried away sometimes but I like him. I like the he explains and tells the truth. Last nigh he i liked what he said about Boston. Said he did not see him as a 1st rounder for the NBA. He said what a lot of us are thinking.
Boston really needs to come back for another year but we know that is not going to happen. He Jackson and Clarke will be gone. I will be surprised if Clarke will play another game for UK.

I must have missed all of these coaches we "let go". Sutton was fired because of probation. Gillispie was fired because of the way he treated people, not because we were losing. We haven't had to fire a coach for losing since before John Mauer (he left to take the Tennessee job). Rupp was retired by state law, Hall, Tubby and Pitino all left on their own terms.
Dykes is absolutely the best at covering UK. I loved his explanation a few years back of the difference between the venerable, genteel Rupp Arena UK fans compared to the "this is my vacation, I'm here to party" UK road fans. Someone who hadn't been involved with the program would never understand that.
A lot of that money was spent on getting nails for foul lines that didn't have them in underprivileged gymnasiums.

Tubby left on hs own, because he was told to make changes, and fired the weight coach. He would have been let go if he had not retired. Hall was going to be let go, because of a problem with him and the AD at that time receiving over 400 tickets to UK. Pitno went on his own, because of the bucks the Celtics paid him. Your correct on Rupp.

Thank the NBA if they are gone. I personally will be happy when most of these players move on. I want players who want to be at UK, not just there to wait a year so they can go to the NBA, which Cal has promised them if they will come to UK. It's time he depended on coaching, as well as recruiting.

Danielson is irritating. He talks just to hear himself talk. He calls fumbles, penalties wrong. They are both analysts but dykes is much more solid.
Let those who want to go to the NBA or G-league and UK can have those who want to work 2-3 years on their game to get ready for the NBA.
All I know is at this point UK isn't even driving the tug that pushes Jimmy's jet away from the gate.
Sounded to me like Cal has been honest behind the scenes about this group underperforming. Cal is like your crazy uncle. He's easy to like when things are going well and easy to dislike during tough times.
Like him or dislike him, no coach is better than his talent. (Look at several other schools.) Pros - Cal is doing what many people desire and building a program with several returning players and 1-2 players leaving early for NBA. Cons - The expected players leave for NBA; couple players leave for NBA that are outside top 30 and go overseas or linger in G-League; 2 or more players transfer because they're unhappy. Only time will tell.
The glaring difference to me is how much difference ONE good guard makes in college ball. C-Cunningham would have made a HUGE difference on this team. There may be a couple of guards who could have made a similar difference. Cooper looks like a difference maker. "This team usually loses by a few points, usually in the last few minutes, that has resulted in unusually few wins." (I'll let Dykes use that line.) I'm personally surprised at how valuable ONE guard can be. I suspect our record would be opposite of what it is now. That's not a great record, but they would come on strong at tournament time.
Cal will do everything in his power not to get caught without an explosive/athletic point guard who can beat people off the dribble. It'll be interesting to see who he gets for next year.

What's more annoying to me are the graphics that popup mid play that shrinks the picture or at times obscures the play taking place.
I can listen to JD in moderation. He knows the game. His "one liners" wear on me, but at least he's created a some new material. "The player that drives the nail wins the matchup" caused me to want to drive a nail through my ear!
But ... every time they put "Jimmy's Jet" on the screen I want to shoot my television with a shotgun! The "top-gun" glasses and coat make it worse. It was cheesy, but tolerable for ONE year. They need to file that graphic away and break them out once a year to poke fun of their cheesy-ness over the years.
I bet Jimmy tells Cal to GUARD HIS YARD. Because 4 sales signs are probably popping up on the lawn.
Something that bugs me a lot seems like our guys set picks and our guards don’t drive the guy guarding them into the pick. Making the pick useless.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I HAVE NOTICED ON THIS YEARS TEAM THAT WE HAVE HAD IN THE PAST YEARS AND IT HAS BEEN TOUCHED ON IN THESES THREADS. HOW MANY FREE THROWS HAS THIS TEAM NOT SHOT BECAUSE OF ITS INABILITY TO DRIVE AND GETS FILE CALLED. I BET WE COULD HAVE WON SOME GAMES IF WE COULD GET TO0 THE LINE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS TEAM AND TEAMS IN THE PAST IN THE SAME AMOUNT OF GAMES
Yes and the guy setting the pick turns the wrong way when he rolls to the basket. We were taught this in the 5th grade. AAU ball has ruined the fundamental aspect of basketball.
I never questioned his knowledge about the game, he’s just annoying with his continuously saying the same crap over and over. Even pulled out the violent cut reference last night. I enjoy the fact he is a homer and I don’t thinK that part can even be questioned. Saying what is blatantly obvious to everyone watching that Uk is not good I guess makes him better than Vitale but not earth shattering.
Having said all that he seems like a good guy and I give him credit he is consistent. I guess I won’t punch him the nuts if he see him now that I talk it thru. But he’s still annoying as hell at times IMO. Nowhere near my favorite announcer for basketball. But fair to midland I suppose
Vitale should be the Lee Corso of college basketball, only seen on Gameday. He has no business doing actual games at this point. I was impressed that Dykes picked up on the fact that Fletcher got in for a trip up and down the floor last night. Vitale would never have noticed that.
