Why Mark Pope should get a year 3? This is the same BS that happened with Stoops. We brought him back for another year. And got 41-0ed by UL. Bringing him back is just allowing another year, of 10-14 losses. While Kansas, Duke, UNC, and Uconn accelerate toward us. Bruce Pearl needs to be bridge hired. 5 years, stop the bleeding. Some up and comers, should be proven by then.

Please stop with the Bruce Pearl ****. I’m all for asking Pope to step down. But we can do better than Cal lite. Don’t forget this is the guy who stepped down at the last possible minute in order to basically give Auburn no choice but to promote his son. They’re in a worse spot program wise than we are except their fans really don’t care. Along with all the other shady **** he’s done throughout his career. Fire or force Mitch out and hire an AD who knows competitive sports and who can come up with real answers.

Bruce Pearl made 2 final fours in the last 7 years at Auburn. Let's see what he does with the UK brand.

Right now if Pearl wants the job you offer it to him. What other coaches want this job? None of the Big Name Coaches wanted the UK job when Cal left, why do people expect UK to have their pick of coaches when Pope is let go this year or next? Right now you take Pearl, he is a proven winner and that is what we need at UK.
Mitch offered 2-3 guys. Drew, Hurley, and Pope. Stop buying the UKAA propaganda.

I agree with you, but it’s all about the perception.

ESPN will run numerous talks on how we fired a coach in year 2 with a blah blah record vs the top 25, swept UT twice, beat Calipari, and now we’re lunatics. The goal will be to make us look nuts, making anyone nervous to come here.

Unless the wheels completely come off, we’re going to waste another year.

UK fans were stupid and racist for running Tubby off. We'll never get a better coach. Tubby won a title here, never missed the NCAAT. UK is done, no coach wants that job. Just ask Dick Vitale... Then we got Calipari.

Because we need Barnhart gone before a new hire is made, simple as that
I get what you’re saying, but there’s no way Mitch will have say in who the next hire is. No way. He had to claw against the donor class last time and the president basically went against what was wanted. He was already on thin ice in basketball. There’s no way.

That’s at Auburn. Building a doormat into a title contender. What the crap is this? Who cares what he did there in 24 months doing it? And what does that have to do with Kentuckys brand and NIL?
Pope is the next Hurley. Book it. "He sucked at Uconn his first 2 years. So just hold onto Pope. He could be the next Hurley".

What makes me wonder is whether the Kentucky brand is what BBN assumes it is nowadays, when you have Kentucky-born players leave the program, like many think Johnson and Noah might ... or should. ?????

It’s always been the same. Blue bloods and the recognition coaches get is the draw. Great coaches come and players follow great coaches. We’re just repeating history now “Kentucky is the next Notre dame” hires Calipari “Kentucky cannot be stopped”.

We have a really bad coach. And we still pulled a sweet 16. That’s the focus. Mark couldn’t even get close to something like that until he came to Kentucky. People overboard the program death it’s the coach just get him out.

UK can get an excellent coach. Mitch can’t. Don’t confuse the 2 things. He needs to be taken out of the equation first.
100% absolute. Mitch will never make another basketball hire here, and I really don’t believe he’d even want to anymore. No way Mitch wants to have to try that. He just wanted control of basketball before he left. He hasn’t been allowed around the program for over half of his tenure.

I get you, but do players and agents feel the same way now with NIL$$$ in the mix ?? How come UCLA and Indiana have never rebounded back to status ?? I do not know the answers and I get that Pope was not truly qualified to be here, but have things changed more than we realize ?? Just thinking out loud ... ????

Money has to be there but in some ways it always Had to be there in some form. Just way less of it. Kansas Unc and Duke are fine, pretty much the same. Unc is actually doing better than I figured with Hubert. Kentucky doesn’t have financial problems either, so you get the UK brand the SEC the history the money etc. it’s just the coach. Now is it like it was in 1971 where you needed Kentucky to be on TV? No. That’s not happening now. But you’ve always needed a great coach, way more so now. So times change and things change but Kentucky is always just a coach away.

This UK administration has made so many mistakes through the years other than the poor coaching hires. A push for an on campus arena should have been made instead of renovating Rupp. There is no comparison between the gameday environment at UK and many other programs with actual juice. Minor things such as logos and uniform decisions have made the UK brand generic and tacky. The JMI deal. Decisions that added extra dollars to the pockets of certain people. But have seriously eroded the UK basketball mystique.

Nice reply, makes sense, but to continue: Does a great coach see the brand and want to be here now ??? I will assume so, but am not sure. For the record, I wanted Sean Williams from day 1 and thought he would come and win big here.

Neither team appears to be investing much money into their basketball programs. Indiana did last year, so maybe that changes in the future.

🙄 I hate comments like this, with no offense to the poster. Do Indiana or Miami football have a good brand? It’s all about the coaches. The whole point is that UK can absolutely lure in a great coach if they don’t have an idiot for an AD. All we could hire after tubby was BCG or is Barnhart just an idiot? The SEC, the salary, the exposure, the NIL. These are all things that Kentucky has and is near the top in. There is absolutely no reason, WHATSOEVER, that Kentucky can’t attract a good coach, like we have countless times.

If Tubby was good he would’ve been great at other schools. He was only great when someone else left him a team.
Cal made Tubby look like an idiot when he was at Memphis. Memphis.

It’s simple, we have the worst AD in sports. He overpaid for Stoops and he overpaid for Cal and he overpaid for Pope.

UK is in a budget crisis and still owes Stoops like $30mil. They aren’t going to pay Pope $25mil to leave. Remember he got another 5.5mil for making the sweet 16 last year.

Does he deserve it, no. Will he be back 100%

Thank you. It’s like morg truly doesn’t understand the financial mess Barnhart has UK in. There is no way in hell Pope is not here next year. Barnhart is an absolute buffoon.

I think your head is in the clouds with what a financial mess Barnhart has UK in with all these contracts. There is no chance in hell pope isn’t here next year without some random 8 figure money parachute falling in UKs lap.

Our only real hope is a booster/boosters offers to pay the buyout. That or the man succumbs to pressure and leaves but why would he leave $5 million/year behind? He’s not as nice as we think he is.

I'll be honest Richie, I'm hoping we lose out and the decision is taken out of Mitch's stupid little hands and Pope is gone. And I'll say I go back to the Joe B Hall days. Listened to Cawood every game. As a young adult I cried over the Laettner shot. And I never thought I would I be hoping we lose. But I think that will be the only way. Many people don't understand the true situation we are in. We are at a crossroads. I warned people with Cal after the Evansville loss. We are headed down the same road as Indiana if we don't get this fixed
