Rickie looked really good, tied at -5 with 2 others for the lead. Tiger had double bogie blues on an easier hole or he'd be 2 back thru 8. Koepka looked great early (on the easier holes mind you) but then hit a tough stretch. This amateur Hovland guy looks like he could be the next great one. Rory looked really good. 22yo Aaron Wise having himself a day. And of course the Peeble Beach land and seascapes win the day.

I thought about that earlier, just checked the guide and no luck, coverage of the final round airs until 9. So they'll probably be playing until 9:30cst, especially if the wind gets up and conditions get much tougher.

Watching the approaches on the greens this evening, it seems the greens are holding much better than the normally hard US Open greens. Did they have some rain lately at Pebble to soften them?

When I first saw Hovland, I thought I was looking at Rory. There's a pretty strong resemblance.

Well, at least the greens are green. Not sure if they've had rain lately or not, but they do seem fairly soft. You remember that place they played a few years ago in Oregon or Washington? That was the worst excuse for a professional golf course I've ever seen. I'm guessing even the USGA won't ever go back there again.

Yes but they start play much later after the cut. It'll last until nearly 9 at least. The final grouping probably won't tee off until around 6cst. The PGA won't let a chance at prime time major golf pass, but I could be wrong.

Yes they've had unreal amounts of rain the last month or two they said earlier. One of the announcers made the comment that the greens this time of the year are normally like a Ruffles potato chip.

Dogs play Sunday evening ...don't ya know.
Of course, just pointing out it ain't that late out there. Pretty much the normal local time to finish for a major this time of year. That it gets it into Prime Time on the East Coast is a HUGE bonus as far as TV is concerned.

Looks like you're right. I just checked the program guide and coverage on Fox broadcast stations is scheduled to run until 9 p.m. I suppose that's what DVRs are made for.

Damndest -1 I've ever seen. He's dropped more clubs than he's hit straight shots off the tee. I've caught portions of at least 4-5 17's. Never knew he read the pack.

Its either the best worst round I've ever watched him play or the worst best round.

We’re probably all used to him flaring one off the tee every now and then, but he hit some approach shots that landed 25 yards from where he was aiming, and he also really struggled out of the sand. That’s something I’m definitely not used to seeing

Base on what I saw yesterday, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be anywhere near the leaderboard this year, but knowing him... it really wouldn’t surprise me all that much for him to go shoot the course record today

I got a play chambers visiting a buddy from Seattle. That golf course would be fine for a US Open if it weren’t for the fescue greens...those don’t work period and they really don’t work when you bake them out. if you think poa annua is bumpy then fescue is like putting on pea gravel. when I played it, they were changing them to championship Bermuda. That course will be fine after that renovation.

Or split screen. I'd rather pay full attention to the baseball game though. If golf has a tight finish, switch over between innings, or maybe a little more.

Yes, it's easy to believe it can be a nice course, but it wasn't professional quality when they played the Open there. I believe they have fescue greens in some parts of the UK, but they've very limited in what grasses will grow there.

Will Bermuda do well in that climate? It's a pretty high latitude. Seems like bent grass would be the choice for them.

Phil just started, and his drives are all over the place as usual, but he's scoring today ... so far.

We play at 6:30 Central Sunday. US Open coverage is scheduled to run until 9:00 Central, which is 10:00 Eastern (primetime in Central and Eastern timezones) and 7:00 Pacific. There's a definite overlap.

Yep bad choice by the usga. Not at you....I just hate to see that course vilified because some dumbass choose fescue greens. The topography is beautiful out there even tho it is a rock pit.

maybe it was bent, but I kinda thought championship Bermuda could work anywhere...it was one of those new manufactured strains.

Joe Buck covering golf is weird and I think it is hard to get passed just that. Paul Azinger is sub par. Like the guy, hope he gets better. I like Curtis Strange covering it.

That was odd, but cool when they had Nantz on for a few minutes

Did I hear right that Nantz lives around Pebble? I did the drive once and there is some expensive real estate there. And yes, I like Strange; hearing Buck is weird; and Azinger is terrible.

I haven’t but the guy sitting next to me has. He says use a caddy, try and have your game peaking when you play so you can some what enjoy the round, food was disappointing at The Tap Room at the Pebble Beach Lodge and service wasn’t very friendly. Stay at Spanish Bay....better view of the Pacific and it has a nice fire pit and bag pipes are played there at sunset.

Yep. Also, he got married there and has a replica of the par 3 seventh in his back yard.

In the final round, Woodland -13 after 3 holes; Koepka only 2 behind. Woodland seems focused, and I'd like to see him win.

The really interesting part will be during our game tonight.
