I would love to see the Merrill vs Buchanan match, but I don’t think the Iowa sight recorded it. Only one of the more intriguing matchups prior to the finals in the tournament, no big deal.

If Merrill keeps developing he's going to be special. He could be a title contender next year. So powerful, quick, athletic, smooth.
What also was encouraging was Merrill was not crushed by Buchanon when he was on the bottom, he got up numerous times and several times was close to out. I think that Buchanon could have been called for stalling because there was not 1 moment that Buchanon was working on turning Merrill. Most of the 2 minutes Buchanon just was clinging on to Merrill. This match was very close.

Another thing I like about Merrill after watching these matches: his transition from getting in on a leg to finishing the takedown is very quick and it eliminates counter scrambles. It’s not an explosive move, but it’s very methodical and you can tell he has crazy lower back strength. I imagine having Surber as a partner has really driven this technique home.

Buchanon should've been dinged once in the 1st period, he backed out at least twice. But they don't call guys in black singlets for stalling in CHA.

The best fans. Believe me. Did I mention Gable?
