Anyone considered just going rogue and deleting all their social media lately? I don't have all forms of it but man, tough to avoid negativity. Not sure if it would matter since everything is all over TV anyway. Just spit ballin on a Monday afternoon.

I did this during the last presidential cycle. Just too much crap out there. I still have instagram, but I only have like 50 family and friends I follow and more use it to show pictures of my kids to them. Social media is awful...

I deactivated Facebook for about a month after 10 different people posted the Plandemic video saying "it makes you wonder." If I lived in state I probably would delete it. I have an instagram, account strictly to post pics and videos from international travel. Love twitter though

I have I deleted all but my husker twitter account. I have tried to remove any and all things not related to sports or Nebraska. If anyone gets too political or negative I block them. I also never watch the news or very little. The world could be under attack by aliens and I wouldn't know it lol

This is my only form of social media...I tried FB but when I got my 7th friend request I deleted it. Who needs 7 whole friends? I do not do any Twitter or snapchat or anything else. This site is it, and frankly, I think there is more downside than upside to social media and it has ruined a lot of marriages and careers.

I will say I had deleted my social media and everything when I had first gotten married, and it was the best thing I had ever did... there is so much drama and political BS out there it’s crazy... I will say though now since my wife and I split, and I’m in the military I only added Facebook back Into the fold and I left it for only family and very close friends.. I still see some BS on there but not at the rate everyone else sees it... what I’d suggest to you is choose one platform and leave it for family and actual friends, set privacy settings so it’s like the account doesn’t exist and you’ll be much happier

I imagine deleting all social media would be good for one's mental health.

If you call this board social media, then that’s all I have. Never had a Facebook account or Twitter or any of the other outlets. Hell there’s times I’d love to throw my cell phone in the creek. I really do like my privacy

Social media can certainly perform a role of informing and giving a voice to people. But unfortunately, it’s the latter that I believe has ruined it for me. Too many people who are not experts but trust their gut way too much feel empowered to share their opinion and have it amplified. I find that I have more trust in those who aren’t afraid to say “I don’t know” and less trust in those who speak with absolute certainty.

Social Media is an illusion.
It is all owned and controlled like classical media.
Social Media just created more narcissists

Reuters is a good source IMO of fairly unbiased news especially for international stories. I've got a Facebook account just because our church uses them now for worship video.

Sometimes we watch the BBC World news. I see stories that are ignored here.
I check them out some too but just remember that they are a very biased network. I'll let you guess which way. I read and watch WAY too many news stories but I always always always remember what angle they're coming at a story from. Unfortunately WAY too many U.S. citizens take network news as gospel.

Social media is evil. You get just as much misinformation as information. You get too much of both. Its made people and media lazy. Think how many “news stories” are put out by some intern with an agenda finding 3 other idiots on twitter with the same opinion , quoting them, and then reporting it as undeniable fact. Thats just dangerous.

For my news I watch 30 min a day of MSLSD and 30 minutes of Fox. The truth is usually in the middle.

My anger level dropped dramatically once I deleted my twitter account. Twitter is nothing but bots spreading disinformation and people yelling at each other. There are fun people to follow on Twitter, but it's not worth having to see all the other toxic stuff.

Unfortunately the only way to talk to some friends is through Facebook so I have to keep that. I only follow 15 out of my 290 friends so my news feed stays pretty clean and I can handle that.

I also stopped watching the national news shows. They are pushing an agenda instead of fairly reporting things, and they are being overly dramatic about it for ratings. It absolutely is bad to listen to that 24/7.

At least with the local news, it's only 30 minutes. I can find out what's going on, and they are not arguing the whole time while doing it.

social media (most of the internet, frankly) confirms that no one listens to you in ‘real’ life, so you post things to get attention.
thats basically all it is.

we’d all be better off without most of it, there are some good uses, but most people have gone completely overboard.

People also don’t realize that Facebook designed their algorithms to make people angry. Mad people stay on the site to argue for hours and keep coming back for more. Happy people don’t make them money

I miss the days when you actually had to research and be held accountable for the news stories you wrote.

You mean your church hasn’t opened up yet?
We've been doing parking lot services. We have a lot of elderly people who would probably come if we opened the sanctuary and they aren't the best at social distancing. We have a history of outdoor services and it's been working pretty well. Our attendance has actually been better than normal just because we're picking up a lot of people who are worried about going inside of their home church. I'm ready to move back inside but I think it's probably prudent given the age and health problems of some of our members to stay outside. We have an FM transmitter so they can listen on their car radio or they can roll down their windows and listen to a speaker we've set up. There's a stage for the pastor under an overhang. The sound engineering is a challenge but we've been making it work.

I'm on FB and Instagram mostly for automotive hobby groups. And yet... it never ceases to amaze me that someone can find a reason to espouse their politics in a post about carburetors or rust repair. Gets old.

Suspended my FB account eight months ago, and it was the best decision I ever made. My news feed was 95% toxic nonsense designed to make people angry, and about 2% posts from people I actually cared about.

My wife had to un-suspend it during the coronavirus house arrest, so my son could continue taking piano lessons, as the instructor refused to use Teams or Zoom. So it is back up, but we're not using it.

Nefarious types from across the political spectrum have learned how to manipulate people using social media. I don't trust any of it anymore.

No FB, twitter, instachat, any of that stuff. Pretty much just this and I check the headlines on a few news websites once a day. If they are all saying the same thing, it might be true.

I like to find the positive in all things because I think there is already so much negativity in the world and that really doesn't solve much in the long run. I've unintentionally paid attention to more national news in the last 3 months than my entire life because of Coronavirus starting and then all the riots. Really just wanted to make sure the riots didn't hit too close to home for safety purposes, they didn't. Still strongly considered deleting everything but haven't done it yet. I mainly only use Facebook, twitter, Snapchat, and this. I don't post anything, just read stuff that's important to me. Not even sure if that's worth it anymore given it's surrounded by most "the world is ending" posts. Shoot I've even thought about going and trying to find a lesser cell phone that doesn't have all that capability. Not sure they make those anymore either.

The problem with social media is that you think you can control it. You think it doesn't hurt to check your phone for a second to look at that notification. I didn't think I used Facebook or Twitter much until started looking at the screen time on my phone. I opened social media on my phone 120 times a day for an average of over 3 hours. It's hard to stay positive if your being shown negative stuff 120 times a day.

I know people are glued to their phone and it seems to be the most important thing in their life these days. I broke my phone and was without one for a week. I felt so much better at the end of the week, that I never re-installed the apps back on my phone. My attention span came back and all that underlying anger I felt everyday was gone.
