Although soccer is not my thing, I'm glad people enjoy playing and watching it and I can understand why it's popular in some circles. But I'm old enough to remember the first of many times when soccer burst on the scene and was clearly on its way to the top of the U.S. sports ladder:

It was when Pele signed with the New York Cosmos in 1975.

I used to hate soccer. Then I had kids, the oldest whom never slept past 5:00 am. The only thing on TV at 5:00 am on Saturday and Sunday is Premier League Soccer. The game grew on me and now I’m a soccer coach for my oldest child’s team. Once I learned the format of the game, the rules, and some of the strategies I began to get into it more and more; now I follow EPL quite a lot. I love it because EPL season begins about the time fall camp starts. So Saturday’s are great because I watch EPL in the morning on Saturday which generally ends about the time 11:00 kickoffs are happening.

So, what's the point of this? We're not a football state anymore? We're a soccer state? Care to take a poll of people in Nebraska and ask them whether they like football or soccer more? I think we all know how that would come out. Anybody think if we cut the football program and replaced it with a men's soccer program and still played in Memorial Stadium that we would sell out every game? Again, I think we know the answer to that. He blows past the weather difference as if it's immaterial(it's not). Not to mention the fact that for soccer you have two Omaha teams playing in Omaha and for football you had teams from Omaha and Grand Island playing in Lincoln. Think that might make a difference in the attendance too? Really a dumb comment that means absolutely nothing relative to the popularity of the two sports in the state.

The point is that NU baseball will never be competitive so we may as well not even try.

So youve got Omaha South who maybe 30% of that schools population are US citizens probably less and Creighton Prep who is one of the largest schools with an affluent student body who's parents spent thousands of dollars per year on club soccer teams. Interesting match

Are you suggesting that 70% of Omaha South's enrollment are illegals? You don't mind if I ask you to provide proof of that, do you? If not, that could be construed as an overtly racist comment.

I participated in the first ever soccer match between two Lincoln High Schools. Fall of 1977, on LSE main practice field versus Lincoln High. We lost...

Two intramural squads. Just a bit of Lincoln soccer history.

There is nothing racist about his comment. Suggesting that the huge illegal influx in this country from the southern border has now affected sports and the culture here is an astute observation. When you let large groups of people into your society, they bring their culture with them. This idea that people assimilate into the existing society takes a generation. There is no other country in the world where people can just cross the border and set up shop.

These two items immediately came to mind when I say this tweet. Beautiful weather last night for any outdoor sporting event, contrast that with cold, wind, and sometimes snow for football championships.

I recall huge crowds for the Class A and B football championships when Lincoln Southeast and Lincoln Pius were making regular trips to Memorial Stadium... in Nebraska Novembers. When you have a pair of perennial soccer powers who also happen to be local on a beautiful night, you're going to have a huge crowd.

Not to mention the fact that the football championship was on live TV.

The original tweet was just a recognition of how soccer has become much more popular than it used to be. Some of you are incredibly sensitive. Like you really think a guy who makes his living off the popularity of football in this state is trying to pump up how soccer is now more popular?

All of South's athletes must play soccer, cause they aren't on their baseball team. At least not when my son was playing anyway. Shame to, beautiful field with some history but man they were really bad.

Of course it's a racist comment. A completely racist comment, and he should be thrown off this board for thinking it's OK to make a sweeping generalization about south Omaha's Hispanic population on here.

You know why? Because the current percentage of Hispanic people in this country that are considered illegal aliens is estimated between 12 to 25%, not 70% as he has suggested. That means he is accusing a large number of people in South Omaha of being illegals when they are every bit as much a citizen of this country as the rest of us.

Racists have been emboldened in this country, and it's getting worse everyday, and it sickens me. I would hope the mods would hold people accountable for their spewing of this "70% illegals in South Omaha" garbage.

But they beat mighty Arizona State so bad they knocked them out of most polls! (Ignore the past month of ASU's season where they've been generally pitching poorly and losing regularly).

Back on point, I don't care about soccer

This happened nearly a decade ago when Omaha South started performing well in soccer.

The bar has been set so low anymore to be considered a racist, that 70% of all people are racist.

I'm not sure what's worse, the posting in this thread or how emboldened people have become these days to bare their *** and openly show others how ignorant they are. Locking.
