Soccer Prediction Thread - USA vs Belgium

Hard one to call. They have a lot of talent but the best of it is getting old. This is by far the best team we have played so far no matter how old they are. We are playing in the US and since it's Belgium and not Mexico we will have a big home field advantage. I still worry about the US back line. 2-2 PKs are a crap shoot so no prediction there really, if you forced me....US because it's at home.
I realize the stakes were way lower but hard for me to overlook that they beat us 5-2 in a friendly in late March. Both teams subbed a lot in the second half but it was largely our A team that played against them and we gave up a ton of goals.
I don’t think it’ll be like that again, but I have a hard time feeling supremely confident in this one. I think there is a path to us winning but our back line against their midfield and attacking options scares me. They may be older but they’ve still got dudes that can make an impact.

I'm kind of worried about our GK too. He's looked pretty shaky. I think if it goes to PKs, we have little chance. Belgium just has more quality depth of shooters than we do and they have a world class GK.
I predict Belgium is going to whine harder than Jim Cornette on the SuperStation after the Midnight Express lost the tag team titles to the Rock n Roll Express.
You are probably right. I just hope for the crowd to help if it comes to it. Isn't their keeper pretty old? That might not be good though, old keepers can be tough to beat sometimes. Wisdom and experience over athleticism.
I thought he was old too since he's been around so long. But he was really young when he was at Chelsea. He's only 34, which isn't that old for a GK.
Wow, I thought the same thing. I thought he had to be close to 40. 34 is prime time for a lot of keepers.

Yeah he’s probably got another World Cup in him. Seen several 40 year old keepers in this year’s tourney.
You said in an earlier thread that the US couldn't win WITH Balogun, much less without him. Now you're picking them? Are you Coach34? Playing both sides?
This is kind of where I am. We lose by 1 or lose on PKs. Hard for me to see us not giving one up if it goes to OT, but maybe we keep pace. I'll be rooting Hard for us though!
Picking a 2-2 draw isn’t picking a win. I hope we can win, hence my pick. It wouldn’t surprise me if we lost at all. Belgium is ranked higher, and beat the ever loving crap out of us the last time we played.
