The Oceania Championship between New Zealand and Solomon Islands. Match begins at 12 pm central time.

The winner qualifies to take on CONCACAF's fourth place team in the Intercontinental Playoff in June.

Panama at Canada
Canada has already qualified for the World Cup. Panama missed out on qualification. The loss to the USMNT hurt them but what really wounded them was the home draw against last place Honduras last week.

United States at Costa Rica
The USMNT hasn't qualified yet but they have a huge goal differential advantage. How much?

Costa Rica has been getting points by parking the bus defensively and considering they have a few folks with yellow card issues I don't expect the Ticos to be aggressive so they'll likely play for the draw, and the Intercontinental Playoff against the Oceania Champ unless...

El Salvador at Mexico

El Tri hasn't qualified yet either and they have a +4 goal differential versus Costa Rica as well. I expect them to qualify easily unless Chaos happens and El Salvador gets a quick 2-goal lead. Yeah, that's unlikely especially since El Salvador has nothing to play for.

Honduras at Jamaica

I could say it's the battle for last place but Honduras can't catch up to Jamaica but maybe they can finally win a match in the Octagon.

So if I’m understanding correctly, there’s basically no chance of a repeat of the Trinidad fiasco from four years ago, right? Worse case scenario the US would at least be in the playoff against probably New Zealand? And even falling that far is very unlikely.

That's hilarious about the forfeit. I get that, but we need to qualify in style with at least a point tonight, if not 3. I don't want to back into it on goal differential.

With them in a position to make 4th place and with a huge goal differential to overcome, I see this being a draw. Like you’ve said, their style of play doesn’t bode well for trying to pour on the goals.

They've got nothing to lose. They've clinched 4th and could get 3rd with a 5-0 or better win (they'd get us on head-to-head goal difference with a 5-0 win) or if Mexico loses to El Salvador and they win and make up a 4-goal differential vs Mexico. I see this going 1 of 2 ways. Either they just go for it and commit everything offensively and it's a high scoring blowout one way or the other (most likely a USA blowout), or they accept that they're 4th no matter what park the bus and it's a boring 0-0 draw.

I think this is the biggest factor in the game. The odds of Costa Rica winning by a 6 goal margin are very, very slim so I think they play the odds and sit or limit the PT of their key players who are on a yellow card. The odds of them beating New Zealand/Solomon Islands in a one game playoff with a full strength side are much better than beating the US by a 6 goal margin.

Do yellow cards carry over to the play-in game? If so, then you're definitely right. If I'm Costa Rica any player on a yellow won't play tonight.

Berhalter is right. It's crazy to suspend a player for a 2nd yellow card in a 14-round qualifying tournament. It's crazy, but Costa Rica's best play would be to sit all 9 players sitting on a yellow card and make tonight's game a farce. And of course, as mentioned earlier, the USA's 100% guaranteed way to qualify is to just forfeit. They really need to rethink the qualification rules and tiebreakers.

Costa Rica sitting 5 players on a yellow card. Looks like they’re playing it smart & playing for the New Zealand game. Good for the USA, but you hate to see them having to do that. Especially since FIFA wiped out the yellow cards for the European teams.

BTW, watching the pre match show & Kate Abdo is still 🔥🔥🔥

This is embarrassing. And a perfect example of why it’s been so hard to really get behind this team the last 5 years. For every big win, there’s a WTF loss. The potential is there though.
