Of the two West Point guys we've got committed (Virges and Carr), he'll probably end up making the most impact down the road.

The link on Scout sent me to the ULM site...Ragin' Cajuns. Glad to see we're aiming high and recruiting against that powerhouse...

Actually, we are. We're just getting commitments from the lower tier guys and not the powerhouse guys. Anyway, I trust Hevesy & Mullen for now.

I mean I agree its OK to pick up some of these project guys (like apparently Clausell is) and bring them along, but we can't be filling up too much more of these early committments with 1 star players. Hell, at least get some 3 star medium range players.

I realize some players in the past who were not rated highly but still progressed to be outstanding SEC caliber players (i.e McCluster types, sorry for the om reference) but for the most part, I would like for us to stay away from these 1 star types.

But, hell, what do I know...I thought Pegues was going to be an all-american by the end of his career, thx crooms!!!

...But I disagree on Virges being potentially better. I'll vote for Carr if for no other reason than his leadership skills, not to mention he's a great athlete.

He's not a leader at all, but I doubt we'll sign a better athlete than him. Virges is just a beast and has his head on right.

1 star means the player hasn't been evaluated yet. Not saying he's gonna be a 4 star when he is evaluated, just letting you know. He is 6-6 295 so at least he's got that going for him.

Everyone knows the Louisiana Cougars.

They lost the Burboun Bowl a few years back to the SCLSU Muddogs. They had a great player - his name was Bobby Boucher.

is exhibit A of why the star system is flawed. Nobody gave that kid a second thought, and he just falls into SCLSU's lap. Turns out to be All American.

if he would have played offense. I'm glad we weren't on their schedule that year, but I feel bad for West Mississippi. I think they lost a couple of players that game.

Damn! a 1 star OL (sigh).

As others have noted, a 1 star on Scout simply means they have yet to evaluate him. The lowest Scout will rate a D1 signee is 2 star. They just haven't received and/or reviewed his film.

He does have good size. His Scout commit article stated that OUR coaches measured him at 6'7" around 280lb.

He was measured at 6-7 and 278 lbs. He ran a 5.0 flat 40. That's pretty damn impressive. He'll probably be 6-7 300 before he steps foot on campus. It sounds like a pretty good pickup because of his speed and size.

taking a chance on a guy that is 6'7" 280 that is an OT. This guy is going to RS anyway, so that will give him another year to develop and get stronger. Especially since we're not likely to get Damien Robinson.

This sure beats the heck out of taking a chance on a guy who is 6'1" 260, but his Dad knows Croom and he can wrestle.

Clausell must be from a poor football school. Says in this interview they went 0-10 last year, so maybe he just doens't get any publicity being on such a bad team. He certainly has some size. Also says he plans to enroll for the spring - guess he has some brains to go along with that size.

Clausell is 6-7 278 and was clocked at 5.01 in the forty at the State camp. I think Mullen is recruiting lineman that fit blocking for the spread than recruiting just for stars. Seems like with Clausell's numbers, he will be a good pass blocker.
