So who commits next?

I’d be surprised if anyone from the Johnson, Grimes, Bol coalition commits to UK this fall. Too many guys could come back, and that counts for everyone but Diallo and Knox. Even Vanderbilt could end up coming back if he feels he can earn a real place in the lottery after a second year at Kentucky.

That said, I think Hayes commits next. Then Zion and a big in the spring with Barrett riding out the clock into May. Once the roster situation solidifies, I think UK nabs Barrett if Knox/Diallo/Vanderbilt all bolt.

I have a hard time seeing Grimes or Johnson committing to us before spring.

With the possibility of Green, Shai, and Quickley all on board, it may feel crowded compared to some other spots.

My thoughts as well. I don’t even think Cal wants a backlog of players like he had in ’15. He’d obviously take Barret and/or Zion regardless, but where do Johnson/Grimes fit if the following guys come back and Barrett/Zion come in?

Backcourt: Green, Baker, Quickley, Alexander

Wing: Barrett, Alexander, Quickley, Baker, Williamson

Where are the minutes for Johnson/Grimes? They don’t exist.

I hope so. He’d probably become the best small forward in Kentucky history. Our program’s history is rather lacking when it comes to elite three men (not sure I’d count Mashburn; he was more of a 3/4 ). Guys like Rhodes and Mercer projected high, but never really took the next step in the NBA. Mercer had a solid NBA career, but left a lot to be desired from where he was initially projected.

Zero chance of Barrett waiting until the spring.

You're exactly right if you place any significance on historical precedent...Cal really only wants 4 guards max in his rotation and might even prefer 3 with the 4th only for four trouble. But the veracity with which we are recruiting both Johnson and Grimes really makes you think the staff must think somebody might leave after next season and the only realistic option is Alexander. Size & athletic limitations will almost certainly keep both Baker & Green from being realistic 1st round selections. Fascinating to see how everything plays out the next 9 months.

TIFWIW, Green has said that Cal told him that if he wasn't OAD, he didn't do his job. So, it's possible Green leaves early. Most of us think his lack of size keeps him around at least one more season, but it sounds like Cal is confident he will be gone.

Does anyone else think it is crazy how much things have changed in the last 10 years of college basketball? I mean this year's team hasn't even taken the court yet, and we are already thinking about next year's class. I'm not complaining, just observing how radically the process has changed over the course of the last decade or so.

Zion and first of KJ or Grimes, will be the only potential fall signings. Hayes will be a you have a spot in the spring if it shakes out right kind of guy and Bol and any other potentials will want to wait it out too.

I think we get him and Ivan Renko both

On a serious note I think who goes and who stays is more up in the air than usual and will be a factor in who (and how many we get or take. There seems to be less talk about practice or pick up games than usual this year,I guess we will get to see for ourselves on "pro day"

The minutes for Johnson exist as long as we don't get both Zion and Barrett as he can play SF . I do think Cal will tell Johnson/Grimes the first one to commit gets the ride so one might commit in the fall.
