So what did Adrian Wojnarowski say or do?

He emailed "17 YOU" to a Missouri politician after he asked if the NBA would use jersey messaging to make a political stance against China.

People need to chill out on trying to get Woj or anyone else cancelled.

That being said, the NBA and their players are all about taking social justice stands in the US while ignoring injustices going on in China/Hong Kong that are 100x worse. They’re happy to take the Chinese money without ever questioning or criticizing the Chinese government, but they **** on their own country every chance they get.

And yes, I understand that everyone in America has a right to criticize the government. I wouldn’t want to imply that NBA players have no right to criticize Trump or the police, because they do and I actually agree with some of their points. But the double standard is absurd.

The NBA’s two biggest markets are the US and China. How can you possibly knock this country on human rights but give China a pass?

Probably because they care more about what happens in America, their home country.

Don't be a moron. It's not doing business with China, but trying to criticize and silence people and cause financial harm to people who do actually have the integrity to point out China's human rights abuses.

Slippery slope to allow political statements to be done/endorsed by the league. Stuff like NBA Cares is great. It can be a good thing but it can sideways very, very quickly.

The leagues were all pretty good about not allowing advertisements/messages on jerseys, etc on things that represented the business while allowing them to say whatever they want on their free time or personal interviews. Now it's starting to intermingle and I'm not exactly sure what the result will be.

I care more about what happens in the US too. I am not a Trumper- didn’t vote for him the first time and won’t vote for him this time either. I actually vote democrat more times than not. I want to see law enforcement get better training and be held accountable when they kill unarmed civilians.

But that’s not what this is about. It’s about the NBA and their players always being the first ones to jump on the social justice train in America every chance they get- while also totally ignoring their number 2 cash cow that has a far worse record in that category. Instead, you have Woj saying 17 you to anyone who dares question what China is doing to Hong Kong.

It goes way beyond race too. I think people get a little sick of athletes who make millions off the back of child labor sweatshops via Nike try to take some kind of moral high ground. It’s laughable really.

Now errbody is offended and wants to cancel him.

Nah, he shouldn't be canceled. Nobody should. Everyone is entitled to his opinion.

He does however deserve to be openly ridiculed for how he responded. Howley challenged the NBA on defending China, and it is a legitimate question to ask. Woj's response says all you need to know about him.

What you complain about isnt unique to the NBA.
I would say that we as a nation are quite happy to take money from China thru trade and pay China for all the **** they product. We also will complain about China's human rights issues, but still purchase a ton of stuff that day which was made in China. Americans should complain more about our country since we have the power to change our country...its ours.

If you want to get into the delicate balance of criticizing China while doing business with the Chinese, go point out all the business leaders who absolutely turn a blind eye in order to have access to that market.

The NBA is small potatoes compared to the actual big players in this issue.

Far more likely that they are doing what they're told to do...shut up and dribble while the league and their shoe sponsors keep cashing those checks.

The reason they don't b*tch about the slave labor and inhumane conditions in China is because that is where Nike makes on those shoes utilizing slave labor for huge profits which can then be passed on down to Lebron. As long as it doesn't affect them personally they are sjw. The minute the mob is tearing down the gates of their gated community and burning houses they wanna cry for police protection

So it’s like “I’m not worried about Chinese people because they don’t live here”

But at the same time....

“No human is illegal! Hispanics have the same rights as us!!”

I agree 100%. I’ve been questioning this whole time why we give Amazon and Google and countless others a pass.

ETA: I’ll also add that Trump is the first President we’ve had that stopped bowing to China and actually started standing up for our end of the bargain.

Yes he did. I dont like how he did it, but the general idea that it had to be done is one of the very few(couple?) things I like so far from his administration.
A tariff war is absurd and has hurt US consumers while not bringing home jobs, so one of the ways he has gone about it sucks, but all seriousness, i like that its been addressed so that it can continue to be a focus for years to come.

It’s not going to be a focus if trump doesn’t win this election. Why do you think the media goes after him so hard, and refuses to acknowledge some of the great things he’s done? (Hint: it’s not because he’s the boogeyman, although to them, he might be)

They have a rooting interest in China and stand to lose billions by us taxing China and the American people demanding jobs back here on American soil.

This is a pretty cut and dried example of hypocrisy for social justice and China is actively engaging in human suffering on a large scale....yet we have those on here that jump to China’s defense or won’t acknowledge the hypocrisy. Pretty disgusting actually.

I have thought up a re-election strategy for Trump that could gift wrap the victory for him. He simply has to endorse oxygen and then a good portion of the Democrats will suffocate prior to November.

The overwhelming inherit problem in American politics was mentioned there.

Millionaires don’t become politicians, politicians become millionaires. (Obviously not an absolute statement)

I miss the days when the sports reporters got into feuds with coaches and athletes. You know, people actually involved with sports.

That will never happen again because reporters have to kiss the *** of the people giving them information. Now that sports celebrities have the ability to control their own marketing via social media, traditional media has become tits on a boar hog. So they pander and kiss *** because they can get cutoff at a moments notice and it won't impact the people they cover one bit.

How many actually control their own social media? How many celebrities, sports, music, etc. actually run their twitter accounts, or at least run it by someone before they post? That’d be an interesting find, to me.

Yeah...im not convinced reporters are going after jim because the reporters or their companies stand to lose billions if the US changes trade agreements with China.

I also don't see a measurable reshoring of jobs that went to China happening.

Even when he does something I want to get behind, his execution is questionable at best. Basically every economist except for that fake guy on his staff said tariffs only lead to US consumers paying more for what they already buy. That is exactly what has happened- prices have increased for the same product as before the trade war. US consumers have less spending power and manufacturing hasn't measurably reshored.
It has done one thing- other parts of developing Asia(so not Japand or Taiwan for example) have benefitted due to facilities leaving China and opening elsewhere to get around the tariffs.

Its not that unreasonable to see black NBA players care more about black people issues in their own country than a country halfway across the globe, financial incentive or not. Just like everything else, human rights issues are always going to be cherry picked to fit political leanings. A lot of people I see who are suddenly so worried about Hong Kong are the same ones that want most immigrants in the USA to go back to their ****-hole countries. I get that the Hong Kong issue is convenient to point out a double standard among outspoken athletes, but I'm not so sure a lot of those same people would be that excited about 1000s of Hong Kong refugees showing up to their town. That's fine if you feel that way, but we are all acting in one way or another with self interest in mind, including the said NBA players.

I think in the long run, prices would go down after they went up if we had a major reshooting of jobs. We would have a lot more money within the country. Companies would have to absorb some hit though. CEOs wouldn’t be making absurd salaries, Bezos and gates would have to accept not being worth 500 billion dollars. Might would encourage more small/private owned businesses to sprout back up. Moving all the business to China has made big business way 17ing bigger over the past 40 years.

You are correct, though some might not like it. China's money has caused the entire world to turn a blind eye to the things that they do to their own people. You are correct that it would be easier to correct things in the US because of our system of government has the "balance of power in the hands of the people." But that's not what was being discussed in this thread.

I for one hope their handling of the COVID virus might just be the tipping point for the US and the rest of the nations that buy so much from China, stick together to encourage the Chinese to change so of their ******** humanitarian issues.

I seriously doubt it will, but I can dream.
