This was as frustrating a pitching night as i remember in a long time. We simply would not throw strikes, picking around outside the zone with breaking balls all night. Behind on counts pitching and hitting all night.

We’ve scored in 2 of 8 innings. You’re damn right it’s possible we wouldn’t score in any of the next 3 innings. And in case you missed it, TX hit a moonshot off Sims and had the tying run on 3rd base when we got the final out just 5 days ago. It’s no guarantee at all that he pitches 3 scoreless innings.

That's all good and fine, but what if Bednar doesn't have it tomorrow.

You play to win the game when it's there to win, not save guys for later. The most important game is not the one tomorrow.....it's the one you just 17n tied in the bottom of the eighth.

Lol, ok. 65 pitches in 6 day’s = full rest. He was ready we just didn’t pull the trigger, plain and simple. Yes maybe the rain was the reason we didn’t put him in but like someone said earlier, PLAY TO WIN THE GAME, I’ll go further and say PLAY TO WIN THE NATTY. Now we have to throw Bednar tmrw and all but burn him for the championship series if we make it. I know people get really defensive on Lemo decisions and I love him, agree with him 99% of the time, but he blew this.

This is true. But we didn't need average players doing exceptional things tonight. Just sims to get us through the ninth so our 2-3-4 can go win the game.

Y'all keep talking about what we have tomorrow and what we need tomorrow...but we had a real chance here to not even need tomorrow, and that's the whole point.

Except he wasn’t fully rested. Everyone with eyes could see he had the least “stuff” 48 hours ago than he’s had all year. That’s what happens when a reliever throws 50 pitches in an outing. And some are getting to caught on a # of pitches. Not every pitch is created alike, and those 50 pitches Sunday night were as high leverage as they get. That was closer to the stress of 100 pitches. We’re all looking for an easy scapegoat, but that doesn’t mean there’s some magic formula that we bungled the steps on.

Likes play it with Sims, he pitches 3 innings throws 45 pitches and we lose so now he’s burned for tomorrow. Tomorrow’s game is a save situation for us and no Sims and we
lose. How many of you so called coaches are now bitching about Lemonis caused he burned Sims the night before. It was the right move not to use him unless we had the lead.

If Sims stuff didn’t look as diminished 48 hours ago as it did then I’m with you. I don’t think most of us really disagree strategy wise, I think several of us are just concerned with what Sims had in the tank. That reduced velocity was just alarming enough for me to think tonight wasn’t the right situation. No matter how tonight turned out I trust our guys to get up off the mat tomorrow night more than I would had Sims came in and got rocked. That would have been a gut punch.

A tad bit of an overreaction…

I personally would have went to Sims, especially with 2, 3 and 4 coming up in the 9th but I would have only let him pitch one inning. So if we didn’t win it in the bottom of the 9th, I’m not sending him back out there in the 10th. With that said, I don’t blame Lemonis for not bringing him in a tied game.

Rowdey got a lead off single to start the game and the pitcher him differently the rest of the game. The lost pop fly was a tough pill to swallow and the pop foul to the catcher with the bases loaded hurts. But State wouldn’t even be in Omaha without Rowdey. The 3 run homer was all Tanner gave us Tuesday, but would you trade it? Not me. Everybody struggles sometimes. The guy that hit the 3 run homer in top of 9th was 0-3 and I think had K’d twice. He did to us what Tanner Allen did to Virginia. The difference? Virginia went home. State still has a chance tomorrow. They can’t pitch their 1 or 2 starters, while we have both available. I will still say that we will need 6 or more runs to win tomorrow. Texas is about to be 37-0 when scoring 5 or more runs this year. That is remarkable pitching! We have to score early and often tomorrow. We need to play tomorrow like we did against Notre Dane 2 Monday’s ago.

So if we didn’t win it in the bottom of the 9th, I’m not sending him back out there in the 10th. With that said, I don’t blame Lemonis for not bringing him in a tied game.
