You don’t hire leach and then want to fire him within 2 years. I was not a fan of the hire for the same reasons you likely weren’t. But He’s here now.
I’ll never understand why we have our best decade of football running a certain offense and then Cohen goes polar opposite for 2 hires. Too soon to know if leach will be successful or not (history says he will) but if he is not, you can’t let Cohen make a 3rd hire.
Good post. It took him until Year 4 to really get things rolling at Washington State, but then they were good year after year. That’s how long it took for them to get the full roster on the same page, both from a talent standpoint and a consistent chemistry standpoint between WR’s / RB’s and QB. In year 1 there, he scored 7 points or less in 4 out of 12 games.
We aren’t Washington State, and we have more advantages than they do, but the rest of the SEC West and most of the East also have far, far more advantages than the Pac 12 schools. So, its not a completely irrelevant comparison. Hopefully it won’t take that long, but we may have to be patient. Either to wait on Leach to figure it out, or to get a new guy in who will undoubtedly have to blow it all up and do a complete rebuild which will take another couple years at best. It may be 3-4 years for us to be competitive at a high level again either way. I’m not sure I see any scenario where it happens any sooner.
