The posts in that thread are why you worry about getting TALENT into the program first and worry about balancing positions and classes later.

If there was an investigation that was going on 2 years ago at the level schools are being looked at now, this would be a different story.

Nevada didn't just get the Martin Twins, they got Hallice Cooke out of Oregon State and Purdue player Kendall Stephens, who can play anywhere....The other player (Simeon Rice's son), is also uber-athletic....The classic renegade program right now.

Did you guys see mussleman (sp?) in the locker room after their win vs Texas. He knows he is mic'd up and he is dropping f-bombs almost as if he is getting a kick out of it.

I immediately thought to myself that this dude is bad news...

You guys are looking at the ‘what ifs’ all wrong. Do you know how badly Eric wanted to coach at Rutgers?

I even got an email asking if Somehow I had a connection to RU.

Before Nevada he badly wanted to coach at RU. He was very much your afterthought.

thanks for clarifying. I guess you know him personally since you referenced getting an email? Do you think he has the personality to succeed under this media microscope? admittedly, I know very little about the guy...but as I said above (and especially after Mike Rice), he struck me as a ticking time bomb (relative to our history and situation)

Bac ...read my post. I think I hit it

What we didn’t see at the time was
1.) Laurent being a bust
2.) thiam being less than the hype and really suited for being a role player

Having said that, having the twins with geo and sanders next year would have been fun, we most likely would not have had the ships for some of the Harper, Mathis, kiss and hopefully Strickland coming in next year as we would not have the ships. We would have been better in years 2 and 3, and rebuilding in years 4 and 5 when pike really starts to get judged hard

If Corey comes back...pretty confident in a winning season next year and continuing the positive trajectory on a build

I still feel this past year was better than pike’s first. And I think we make progress

So it would be natural for RU to pass on a supposed west coast guy (former head coach at Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings) who was working (at the time) more recently at Arizona State. His star was probably fading and it would have been a gamble for RU.

But he seriously wanted in. And he is a good coach.

If we had gotten them does that mean we still have Eddie Jordan as our coach? If so glad we missed.

Sorry, but I told you guys during his recruitment that Jonathan Larent's weakness was his shooting and that he had been playing power forward his whole High School career but he has small forward size and length. HM basketball was the wrong level for him.

But he was "a Shoes recruit" and back then that was the gold standard for this message board. I'm guessing that's why you couldn't see it.

Well. One could certainly understand why we’d pass on a former nba coach with a fading star.

Russ

Actually, you nailed it.

Remember, Laurent spent his entire frosh year playing the four spot under Eddie after freeman got hurt as well as all of the other bigs

That really masked to us what he was and wasn’t, as we never saw what he had at the three spot.

I’m sure pike knew, and that’s why he had a hard press on thiam to honor his verbal and Rutgers continured to recruit forwards (the twins and Eugene) but it wasn’t apparent to us at the time.

I actually preferred to leave him at the four spot, where I thought he could have been a back up there behind Freeman.
