Perfect example right here from Philly.com

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/colleges/324261861.html Rutgers football program in turmoil First 2 paragraphs have severe inaccuracies about what's unfolded recently.

1) It was not reported that Flood asked the professor for grades to be changed (It was reported that he emailed a professor about a grade).
2) Only Boggs was involved in the home and dorm invasion - not all of the players.

The media is doing a great job of not reporting all the facts properly and having a field day linking all of the events together. We are really taking another public perception hit. I emailed this dingbat to edit his article, everyone should do the same.

I hope people remember this when reading ALL media reports, this is the way they work, they always get everything wrong.

The press is awful they're always very loose with the facts.
Best to give them nothing to write about

There is no culpability. They write a sensational story to generate a lot of traffic, and when it turns out to be false they just say "whoops" our unnamed source must've been inaccurate.

Deadspin had the same error in their article. Claiming Flood pressured the professor to change the grade.

However who am I to claim that as an inaccuracy. I don't know what Flood's intentions were.

Update - never received a response from this guy but it appears they have taken the article down. At least they have some journalistic integrity, unlike some others.

Good that it is down - but this speaks to an aspect of highly questionable ethics in the area of electronic publishing - 'distortionists' can post some untruths & hammer someone's reputation - then when called on it - just take it down - or simply go back in and artfully 'edit it ' so that it is not a blatant lie - but still is a sleazy out of context line of discussion.

...or simply print a minute retraction on page 79 in font 6 that no one ever sees or reads.

It may be a matter of time before libel suits increase. The opportunities are growing with the Internet and extent of potential damage.

We've been trying to tell you all that for 4 years.
Not believing what you're saying is true.
You've been lying for 4 years about what happened .

The coverage of Flood's e-mail and the RU players arrest might be screwed up, but in both cases a cover-up wasn't involved and Rutgers fans aren't excusing those involved.
