I cant wait for him to be our starting QB... We will finally get to see the full potential of Mullens O.
Then we will never get to the next level. Every single team that beat us recruited in the top 10 this year. Every...one... How can we possibly hope to gain ground?
Somehow out coach them. Petrino was out recruited by several teams, but kept Arkansas in top 3-4 in sec. Because we get out recruited, I love that we're redshirting so much. The teams that out recruit us lose players early, so we've got to beat them with experience not talent
Mullen realized his staff wasn't getting it done in recruiting a couple years back. Look at our last hires, Brewester, Gonz, Townsend (MS ties), etc.. Unfortunate we lost Brewster, and Hevesy is still on staff (so, we haven't seen Mullen completely commit yet), but he's coming around.

We're not. State will never be a 10+ win team for an extended period. All we can hope for is to have a special group like 80-81 and 98-99-2000 that puts together a run for a couple of years.
As long as the SEC has 3-4 teams in the top 10- we cannot win it. Neither can OM, Missouri, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, or Arkansas
OM and Arkansas can... If Freeze keeps signing classes last he did last February, there won't be much of a talent gap between them and the top of the SEC. It's kind of sad, but it's true.
I've got 50 and 21 years of evidence that states otherwise. Miss State has come the closest of those teams I named- being 1 minute away from the Sugar Bowl in 1980 and 7 minutes away from a title in 1998.

The Bears will not be able to continue buying players the way they did this year. Arkansas could get there......not so much for Bucky and company. It will not happen, period. BTW.....love to see that from Dak!

In 1995 when they went 8-4....got blown out by Florida 34-3
In 2002 when they went 9-3...got blown out by Georgia 30-3
In 2006 when they went 10-2...lost to Fla 38-28
Even their best seasons under Petrino they lost at least 2 games. That is their ceiling. And as usual, they fell back to earth and are unable to maintain a high level of play. Even if Petrino hadnt been fired, they would have lost 3-4 games having to play @A&M and @SC
And OM has no chance of winning an SEC title-as I said- 50 years of not even being close.

Our success will come by signing the Ballard, Banks, Whitley, type players and geting lucky and gettng several of them in a single year. Look at the players on the Superbowl team's roster - lots of them were not recruited by any BCS school. Keep in mind that no one recruited Rice, Payton, or McNair from MS. Our only chance is to get several "diamonds" in the same class - it is what it is...

I know what you're saying, but in those 50 years, there were only 10 SEC teams for 30 years (OM, MSU, Vandy and UK being the laggers). Since the conference expanded, Ark and SC are 0-4 in championship games.
A&M, Ark, and SCjr can all bring home titles. If Freeze keeps it up for another 3 or 4 years, OM will be right in the middle of that group as well. We'll just agree to disagree.

You guys are underestimating Mullen. He will upset two SECW teams this year and beat SC. He will have a QB that he has tutored 5 years and other that he has coached 3 years. Plus a new defense, 4-2-5 quarters, that will be "salty," if it can hold up to the "in and up" and "hitch and go." But with a few hooking-bulls up front and two press CB's, we will be mean.

On an average year in the SEC (w/o a dominant team), 2 loses gets you to Atlanta. Bama should have lost 2 this year. John L Smith "coached" the team this year - no doubt they fell back to earth. Hypotheticals I know, but if Petrino would have stayed, they would have overtaken LSU as the #2 team in the West. They would have beaten LSU (L 20-13) and SC (L 38-20) this year, and would have been able to score with TAMU and Bama. They also would have extended their dominance over State. 8-5 (Liberty), 10-3 (Sugar), 11-2 (Cotton), 11-2* (??) wouldn't be a bad 4 year run (Merlin is lucky to get 2 8-win seasons). (FYI: starting in 2014 TAMU-UPIG will take place in Jerry's World and will shift the power further west).

you're giving a couple of bad 2012 teams a lot of credit (aub, ark). also, while we lost pretty much our whole secondary and WR core, we are returning most of our 2 deep in the front 7, our entire OL, and our QB. those are the positions that make or break your season.
I fully expect us to finish behind Auburn next year. Gus doesn't have to rebuild much on offense, and honestly, he's a good enough coach to get things rolling right off the bat. I think Arkansas continues to struggle next year. It's tougher to implement a nasty-prostype-powerI-B1G-330lbOL type offense than Auburn's spread.

Hell no. We will go 4-2 in the West, lose to Bama in OT and Texas in a close one. This year Collins will put 8 & 9 players in the box and stop Johnny Football.

Are you trying to say UCLA won't be back in basketball? They are likely to hire Shaka Smart -- and they'll likely be competing for titles within the next 3 years. Comparing historic athletics programs to the Roman empire? Laughable. 16 years of the BCS national championship game -- 15 teams. Which 15? 5 of the "big 6" in the SEC, FSU, Va Tech, Oklahoma, Miami, Nebraska, USC, Texas, Oregon, Notre Dame, Ohio St. Those constitute 7 of the 8 true remaining threats to SEC dominance(FSU, Oklahoma, USC, Texas, Oregon, Notre Dame, Ohio St, and I'd say Michigan)...
In 50+ years, SIX teams have won the SEC -- hence the terminology of "Big 6". I'm not saying that it's IMPOSSIBLE to break that streak -- but let's be honest, it is one HELL of a streak that we are up against... In that time period, NO ONE has come closer to breaking the streak than MSU has -- twice. And we've still come up short. We're not talking about a 7 yr run here -- we're talking about fifty years. Straight.
