So let's talk about tonight and Sims

I think Sims takes the mound at some point, either way, right? Unless we are up "big" late I could seem him coming in his typical role to close it out, but even if we are down I could seem him coming in to keep a lid on their offense. No?

I think you've got to try to save him for tomorrow if you can. You're not going to beat Rocker without getting 3 innings from him tomorrow, so don't waste him tonight unless you have to. But it's do or die, so you may have to.

Yeah, if we're up by 1 or 2 going into the 8th we might put Sims in, but otherwise he needs to stay on the bench.

I’m not sure. It all depends on the situation but I have a hard time seeing us not pitching him at all tonight. Tonight is it. He’ll play if the game is close. Can’t lose with your best pitcher not playing at all.

Yeah, we'll pitch him in the 3rd inning if the situation calls for it. Do or die tonight. Even if he has to pitch 4 innings middle of the game - if that's what it takes to stay in it, that's what you've got to do. Can't piece together pitching for game 3 if we don't win game 2.

Obviously you'd prefer to not use him at all, but we'll need a big lead and great pitching from whoever else we use to keep him off the field all night.

Just like you said - he comes in to lock down the win in a close one, or to give us a chance if it starts to get away. Can't take a loss without him taking the mound.

I know it would be unorthodox but I’d start Sims tonight. I’m not losing the national championship without my best pitcher getting a chance

You've got to win TWO games to win a national championship. He can't pitch 18 innings. The key is to use him wisely when you need him the most.

Yeah there’s no way you can lose tonight having never thrown Landon Sims. And that won’t happen. Lemonis is too smart and too good, as bad as I wish he wasn’t. If Vandy scores 4 in the first inning or two, I’d bet he goes to Sims then. He lights a fire in the lineup when he takes the hill. And Sims can give you 6 innings if he needs to. His B- stuff is still damn good. You can’t play tomorrow without winning today.

Also, it’s not like he can’t throw an inning or two tomorrow just because he pitches tonight.
