So it's top 15 next year or bust?

I'm hearing a lot of "if Stans doesn't make it to the sweet 16 next year, it's time to get rid of him. So this is the line in the sand? Finish a top 15 (or 16) team or you are gone?

What other sports do we hold to this standard? How many years does Cohen get to finish ranked in the top 15? What about Mullen?

I'm not sure where you're hearing the Sweet 16 talk. I think most people are "demanding" a NCAA Tournament birth this year or next.

Stansbury has to make the Tourney this year or next to keep his job. Plain and simple. Its not a hard concept.

I've only seen one poster say he should make a Sweet 16, and thats just dumb, cause we all know he cant do that

We've been to, what? 1 New Year's bowl game since Pearl Harbor? 2 Sweet 16's ever? At least with baseball, we have a history that commands that sort of expectation.

I'm all for holding our teams to high standards, but damn.

of anything but good or bad. We've never been great at anything. The closest we've come is in baseball and that was 23 years ago. Decent bowl games and post season play in basketball and baseball is all we've ever known. To think we can just snap our fingers and go beyond that will lead to a miserable life. I understand setting goals, and wanting more, but to just expect it to be an every other year thing for State shows the complete ignorance of our history.

...is that it isn't that cut and dried. Tourney berths and stuff like that shouldn't be the litmus test. What we should all demand is simple: continuous improvement. We have to stop losing to bad teams early. We have to be prepared to play every game. We need to be smart with sub patterns, and run some semblance of an offense other than four guys jacking threes. We need to stop the player turnover in the offseason. These are things that have been killing us. This stuff gets shored up, and tourney appearances will take care of themselves.

That's why Stans needs to fire at least two of his assistants and go out and get some guys who are better on the tactical side. Then, he needs to let them do their jobs. I've never advocated the firing of Stans, and I don't dislike him, even though many of you say I do. Good executives do what they do well, and delegate to their staff what they don't do well. If they're really good, they bring in staff that will accent their weaknesses.
