I don’t think they bother recruiting the soccer team for an emergency backup to the emergency backup if they thought Pickering was coming back soon

Where in the World is Pickering San Diego?
And what injury could he have possibly done to himself this off season to keep him out this long?

I heard that he lost his legs in a cheese grating accident. They are looking at all the latest prosthesis and I've heard that robotics are a possibility.

This would suggest that they believe that his injury is related to kicking:

"Nebraska special teams coordinator Jovan Dewitt can’t believe what has happened with Pickering:

“This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen before,” he said. “I’ve never seen this before. I mean, we go through plans of how many reps (the kickers) are going to take on a week-to-week basis and how many reps they’re going to take on a daily basis. We make sure they get warmed up beforehand. We do everything and anything possible. It’s like a pitcher’s arm. They have a kicking count, and we don’t exceed it. We’ve never exceeded it.

“It’s just one of those situations where you almost feel snake bit to a certain degree. It is what it is. We just push on through it.”

Despite not kicking the first two weeks, Dewitt said Pickering has been practicing with a “light kick count” since last week."

Since he resumed some kicking a couple of weeks ago, there would seem to be a good chance that he will be back on the roster at some point this season. It does raise questions about his durability, though, and a good reason to start lining up some other options.

Yeah I heard hip flexor. Whether or not that’s the actual problem is indeed just speculation though.
If a hip flexor and it happened the first week of september then I suspect 3-4 week recovering time. Since he is already taking some kicking reps probably closer to 3 weeks so maybe not this week but the next
