When the NCAA passes the new transfer rule, a ton of players all over the nation aren’t going to wait their turn. They will transfer immediately and play at another school. College basketball will truly be free agent and game as we know it now will be finished.

It depends, if you are getting the John Wall type of one and done's, yes I would take those guys no doubt. If you are getting the Diallo's and the Washington's of the world, I'd honestly rather take a proven player in the college ranks. And thanks for "respectfully" asking me. Not sure why you would have to do it any differently.
The problem is college basketball will be free agency whether you go pro or go to another college. A lot of players will not want to wait their turn.

History is still on my side.

Wow, so you are arguing there are more soph, juniors and seniors that have been PG for title teams...that is shocking man. Shocking.

UK hasn't won many titles period in the modern era (4 total, 3 pre-cal in 50 years)...so not sure what history you are talking about.

UK didn't lose in 2010 because of Wall, didn't have frosh starting in 2015 (but people like you bash Cal for not startin Ulis and Booker LOL ironic to your argument bud), 2014 had a rash of injuries to the FRONTCOURT that killed us against UCONN, and 2011 lost because our best player shot terrible...and he was a frosh PG so bash Knight all you want big guy. Forget the fact he won 2 games (literally on last second shots) to get that team to the title game.

Sadly you are correct, are people not smart enough to see that a transfer rule like this will destroy the college game in short order.

The only guy who could throw it in the ocean in our Sweet 16 game. And he decides to transfer just when Cal jumps into “can never have too many shooters” with both feet?

Anything can happen but whether he “thought about” anything or not I’m still ready to first believe there’s a chance Quade might transfer right after I read he’s gone. Ready to eat crow.

It’s insane that the NCAA would even consider it. But when it passes, I want future pros on the roster not players transferring to other schools.

What is wrong with that? Every time we lost when it mattered, we were younger.

We've lost a lot when it mattered when experienced too.

The 2010 team had 2 seniors on it in the rotation, and a very key Junior as well.

2011 had a a senior and 2 key juniors...they didn't get stuff done against UCONN.

2014 was young...but again, mention all the injuries or shut up.

2015: Again, very experienced. We had a junior WCS, 2 veteran guards (not frosh), and a lot of other non-frosh.

2016: Had a non-frosh guard and lost in the 2nd round.

2017: We had a nice mix of experience with the frosh....officiating and deciding to keep letting Hump be our go to down the stretch cost us in that one IMO.

So again....tell the whole story poster I've never heard of before today.

I'v had 40 plus years experiencing it. I know.. And this has been about point guard play, for me anyway. Decision makers, stabilizers, leaders.

We’ve been consistently more successful than anybody other then maybe Duke. You can’t be happy now, I don’t know what to tell you.
I'v said several times, in different threads, I'm not a rational fan. I start every season expecting a championship. Not very healthy for me, but sorry. That' how I feel. Sorry your expectations are lower.

It just makes you lack the basic knowledge of how sports work. Expecting a title every year for any team is silly, even the Patriots.

So was Fox...so was Knight.

If you want to crap on Andrew Harrison, go for it, but the guy helped win games at UK. Bigtime games.
I'm not crapping on anyone. Never mentioned in a negative way any player. And if I did, I didn't mean to. With that said , when push came to shove. We were shoved...to the floor.

Has zero to do with my knowledge, and more to do with my FANatical expectations. I'm sure there are more of me out there. Even at our worse, and you can say Tubby years, I expected more.

Ha, a perpetual optimist I see. The unknown is always better apparently.

If you haven’t realized that experience is often times more valuable than raw potential, and that players can and do improve drastically each year...then I don’t know what to tell you.

Right now Hagans is not in this class. He has to achieve certain academic grades and courses this summer to reclassify and said it was 50/50. I don't know why Green would transfer. He now has a year of experience and would be our starting point guard. Quickley would be starting from scratch and if we haven't learned by now that experience is going to matter, and sometimes great recruits take time to develop, then it will be another, "I have a very young team." Green has the position until he loses it. If he transfers then he isn't what is needed unfortunately. You want confident, it's mine type guys.
Green ain’t starting over any of the incoming guards. He is not an elite talent. And can’t do things they can do. I love Quade as much as the next guy. But he will never play in the NBA. Too small and doesn’t have the intangibles for his size like Ulis did.

Wayne Turner was a highly touted McDonald's All American and only became a "stabilizer" because of his truly broken jumper. Marbury in the same class was like the original one and done so you can't really compare the eras by that metric.

Certainly, few were wringing their hands for Epps being recruited over with some new burger boy stud especially his coach but Epps beat him out and proved he was the answer that Delk wasn't.

No path was cleared for Epps he beat out the competition and contributed what he had without being an anointed one.

Green had identical stats as Brunson did his freshman year. These are the types of players we need to win ships. If he leaves, I hope you all are satisfied with disappointing sweet 16 losses and being strictly an NBA factory. Freshmen turn the ball over 6 times and shoot 8-20 from the free throw line in big tourney games.

Agreed. If it is a woman, just goes to the stereotype women know jack about sports.

The guy says he/she uses facts but cannot back up the facts that UK's frosh PGs have done well in the NCAA Tourney overall and carried the team far. Unfortunately the luck variance has to be considered...if some of those guys hit those wide open 3's against WVU posters like the other one couldn't talk smack as UK wins the title that year.

And I fail to see how Fox lost last year's game...official cheated UK and someone as "fanatical" as the other person should acknowledge that. And the injuries in 2014 and so on.

Overall, doesn't matter. This is just a game. No effect on our lives and the real fans know that and can be educated and enjoy sports for what they are...a game.

Maxey can. Quickly, Herro and Baker also can which we didn't have this year (in addition to Gabriel)

Would you trade a freshman Wall, Fox, Sexton, Rose, Evans, Knight, Bledsoe, Teague for a Sophomore Green? I personally wouldn't and would take my chance with those guys running my team. All are more explosive which helps create on their own and set up teammates. They are all also better defenders due to lateral quickness and size.

Green is tough and has good intangibles and is a solid set shooter. I do think he is a winner. At a program who can't get the best of the best he would be a very solid lead guard. I just don't think you should pass on an Elite guard bc it might scare him off.

Ppl can have different opinions. I'm just explaining mine. Since we should have experience back at other positions we should be fine.
Keep in mind that a sophomore Green can eventually be a senior Green. I might well take a senior Green over some of those other guys. If Quade transfers, and I don’t think he will, then 2019 becomes completely National Championship or bust in my mind. Because an experienced Quade is exactly the kind of player this program has been lacking.

Not all freshmen shoot 8-20 from the line, some of them have the basketball IQ and poise of let's say a Tyus Jones, who led his team to a title as a freshman. Green has a very limited skillset and thinking that he has a better chance of leading a team to a national championship as a Jr. or Sr. over a very talented freshman is absurd.

Cal basically relegated him to backup shooting guard this year and has recruited over him twice already and you think Cal is going to start him at PG?

“Recruited over him twice” so should he not go for elite players? If Hagans and Maxey are telling Cal and Co they wanna be cats should he say no? Lol...
Cmon

Was Cal recruiting over PJ, Richards , Gabriel and SKJ by trying to reel in Zion, Bagley, Reddish and Barrett ?

the thing I don't get, 1 month ago everyone was saying Dukes class is irrelevant because they're too young and we will be returning guys like Green and others. Suddenly we reversed this when we had a few top 20 commits and transfers (and transfer rumors) happened.. Now people are acting like we've signed the top 2 players in the class. That's ridiculous. And some in this thread are good dudes but totally sunshine pumpers. It is what it is.

If Green wants to go fine, but these guys coming in better be better than him and people will be watching and waiting to see if they are.

Some people cannot think through these things. The "everything is ok" crowd. They are the worst and cause incredible damage everywhere.

I think the rule will be so devastating they will change it back if they can. I give it two years and 90% of the nation is going to be screaming to go back to the old rule. You simply have to have a deterrent, it's not optional.

Everyone needs to be "recruited over" and be challenged.

Everyone needs to have the bench as a realistic option.

Everyone needs someone that can step into their role if the need arises.

If you are Michael Jordan then you don't give a damn if even Clyde Drexler is brought in as long as your contract is straight.

Coddling weakens everyone involved. It is toxic to any kind of team.

I agree with that, but sometimes players have to be talked into coming back. It's just the way it is, it doesn't always mean they are weak. Quade Green was by far the toughest player on our roster imo. He refused to go away even when it wasnt working. He didn't talk back and kept fighting. He's a freshman, who could be a solid 3 year player. If you only knew the players that have wore a Kentucky uniform that had previously contemplated transferring. Some of our best, I assure you.

It's not as simple as "he's a ***** be done with him". He probably doesn't feel valued, and it's these kinds of things that do hurt us on the recruiting trail with certain players. It's easy to tell a kid that Kentucky will chew you up and spit you out. Not that I personally believe that, but it's an easy pitch. And it has worked, I'd bet on that.

Kentucky and Duke are known as the NBA factory college programs right now, and kids are going to get recruited over if they're here more than 2 years because all of the elite high school players are looking to go to both of these programs. Neither Kentucky or Duke will have the luxury of having multiple 3 or 4 year college guys like Villanova right now. Just the way it is. If you're an elite basketball player, you're not looking to go to Villanova, heck, even UNC is having a hard time getting the top tier guys. It's not going to hurt recruiting at all just because guys are getting recruited over because most if not all of the recruits who come to Kentucky don't expect to be here past 1 year.

Yea, but that's just for Cals tenure. This is a situation unique to him, other programs aren't losing guys at this rate. We are entering a situation where every player on our roster contemplates leaving. Name another program where this happens?

I think it needs to be contained a l lot better than it is now, seems like it's a trend that's getting worse.
