So is anyone else really missing their old iPhone 7?

Passcode every time when I’m at the office is really pissing me off. Apple needs to get on the retina scan or something with next iOS.

It’s what I’m posting on now. Won’t get rid of it until it croaks. I use my phone for internet, calls and texts. No need to get a new one every year.

I'm using a 7 now but the battery has about crapped out. Checked with Apple about installing a new battery $349. Got on Verizon web site and I can buy a brand new 7 for $299.

The FaceID on my Xr works great (unless I wear a face mask, which I do or don't based solely on the latest advice on this board)

Did they purposefully make the battery harder to replace to force people to buy new ones? I've changed the battery out twice for my current phone and I think it was under $100 each time. Still a big chunk compared to buying new, but I I've gotten two+ good years out of each battery.

Can't you turn the passcode off?

Apparently not on the XR. There’s a “Turn passcode off” option in the settings, but it’s grayed out and you can’t select it on the XR. I also have the X as a personal phone (XR is my work phone), and you can turn it off on that one.

Anyway, I’m not real comfortable not having a passcode anyway, but it seems like now you’re almost forced to on the newer models.

Interesting. I just checked on my iPhone 8, and the passcode can be turned off. I use fingerprint on the Home button (which you don't have on the newer models) most of the time, but passcode when necessary (hand sanitizer screws with the fingerprint recognition for a few minutes after using, in which case you have to use the passcode).

I think I'll just keep my 8 as long as possible.

The price of the battery was only 49.99, the rest was labor and shipping cost. I'm currently relying on a mophie battery case to get me through the day. My theory is that once they introduce the newest model, the 7 will be $199.

Can you not set it so that your thumb print unlocks it? Using that the only time I have to enter my passcode is after restarting it. I’ve had my 7 for 3 years and I hope to get another 3 years out of it. My little sister is the type that has to have the newest thing on the market so I’ve lucked out getting her hand-me-ups, when I bought it after swapping from AT&T to Cspire it was the first new phone I’ve bought since the early Blackberry days maybe 10 years ago.

I honestly don’t even know which one I have. Work pays for it, I’ve had it for close to a couple years I think.

I caved to the passcode 3 or 4 months ago. Sucks but I don’t really notice it anymore.

Hmmm I have an XR and I can absolutely turn my passcode off, it must be something with your phone.

Still using my iPhone 7. I very rarely update it, and it’s doing fine.

I'm guessing your IT dept may have deactivated the turn off passcode option.

Got my first smart phone Thanksgiving 2011. It was when iPhone 4s was pretty new. Next one I got was iPhone 6 in roughly 2015 when the 4s stopped connecting to the internet. Typing this message on the 6 now. A guy I work with is like the local shadetree battery changer. He bought a new battery and installed it for me and it was like $40 total. I realize some apps may not be supported eventually but until it's my weather, banking, or gps apps, I'll keep this phone until it dies.

No I’m fine with it, but it doesn’t work with a mask...which we are required to keep on at all times in the office unless we are eating, drinking, or smoking. Tried to update my appearance on the facial recognition and it wouldn’t work at all with no nose / mouth visible. Sorry if that wasn’t clear from the OP.

Still rockin' my 6s also. I HATE the mini-TVs that they call phones these days. Too big. Love the size of my 6s.

I don't think I'd use a banking app on a phone or computer with an operating system that's no longer supported. I was still using my 6 as well, but upgraded last fall when they quit supporting it. You can get a good supported phone for a couple hundred dollars.

What's an iPhone? I've had a variety of phones over the years (Nokia, Motorola, Blackberry, Ericcson, Samsung, Kyocera that cope to mind) starting w/ my 5 watt Motorola bag in 1988 but I've never used an Apple product, of any kind.

I probably bought 6 or 8 Apples for my kids over the years but never wanted one for myself.

If you have a home button - you have an iPhone 8 or older.

If you don't, you have an iPhone 10 or newer.
