Who would we replace him with? Smothers and Haarberg aren't ready yet, I can guarantee you that. Like it or not, AM is our best option.
Probably and probably our best chance to win 4-5 games still this year. Sigh. When Callahan was hearing the calls for the backup QB he threw Bones to the wolves down at Texas Tech. That didn't work out so well. IF there were a better QB on the roster something tells me that some former Huskers who have watched practice would be publicly calling for him to play.

I feel we are truly screwed. AM is just not it but he's the best we got . We have no running game or receivers to help out. If we put Smothers in we probably ruin the kid. We're the definition of instanty with no real options. I just can't watch this **** anymore, I walked away at halftime and didn't look back. It's freaking bleak bros.
Yes. It's time to accept that Martinez is not an effective thrower and continuing to send him out there just because he is a junior is setting the whole program back. I believe Haarberg has the tools and intelligence to take on the starter role. Martinez played game 1 as a true freshman, so why can't Haarberg?

I just don't get the whole "not ready" argument. Yes, Luke was not ready, but he wasn't really a quarterback. There are thousands of high schools across this country who trot out quarterbacks every Friday who are more "ready" than Adrian Martinez.

Our local quarterback, Glenwood, IA's Brock Sell was 9-13 (69%) last night for 62 yards. He rushed for 78 yards on 7 carries. He completed passes when needed to keep pressure off the running game (34 rushes for 260 yards). He had one INT that I think was a Hail Mary right before half. No fumbles. He did what was needed to win the game 38-0, and no one in Glenwood had any doubt he would manage the game. Flashy? No. Going to D-1? Maybe. But he doesn't turn the ball over, he makes good zone reads, he throws a good ball off his front foot. and his teammates believe in him. He makes them all better.

I don't understand why Nebraska can't get a QB to hand the ball off, make a few basic throws, inspire confidence in those around him, and not personally lose the game each week. If Masker, Smothers and Haarberg aren't those types of guys, then Nebraska has truly failed in QB recruiting.
I think Haarberg can be a good throwing QB. But the failure to even try one QB from the transfer portal the last couple years is just unacceptable. Hell, I would have even considered Tate Martell. What did we have to lose?

Martell? Please. I just about fell out of my chair laughing. The one point that people outside the program brought up, and it's a good one, is that there wasn't much one should covet in the portal and the ones you would want aren't going to a team with a 3 year starter with 2 years of eligibility left. I keep hearing portal but man I looked at the QBs in the portal. I didn't see anybody other than Milton I would have wanted. He wasn't coming to NU and nobody knew if he would play another snap.

Or you tailor your play calling to your QBs skill set. He's not a good drop back passer. He looks really good running traditional option with a pitch back. Do that and you can throw option passes off of it.

To answer the OP, I think if it were me, the answer is yes. I'd be looking at it a little differently. IF I bench Martinez and put in my younger QB2, it would give me a little leeway at the end of the season when my review comes up...lol...(yeah I know, he's set for life $$$)

I'd also probably be thinking if I go with AM and we win 5 games vs going with QB2 and we win 5 games or 4 games, what's the downside exactly. I just gave a QB2 a chance and maybe QB2 and QB3 chances and recruits might see it as opportunity. I don't know, I just can't believe what I watched today.

Martell was a great passing QB in high school. I know he's been a douche, but this would be his last chance to get it together so would he get it together? What exactly do we have on the roster now that can run the offense. We are all begging to see an unknown true freshman because we are that desperate.

Martell is not just a douche. He's a train wreck. He's not a guy you want on your team. I would rather have had Terry Wilson than Martell and he would have come in a heart beat. That said, he's not been better than Martinez.

Well I certainly can't comment on a high school quarterback from small class football in Iowa, but college defenses are a little bit more complex in how they scheme. That said, guys who succeed at one level, do not make the jump to the next. They've peaked, whether that's college football or the pros

Of all the qb's that come through a system, it is actually pretty rare you get a guy who won't **** up, let alone find an actual good qb. You could just go with your last sentence. Nebraska has failed spectacularly in qb recruiting, and the sad thing is Frost didn't even try.

Yeah yeah. The only qb that has been "ready" by some standards is the only guy they've given snaps to for 4 years. 6 other guys weren't ready, but somehow AM was?
Luke McCaffrey bro…..how did that work out. And he was better than both backups.

Why do people insist that Frost isn’t trying to get these portal guys? Ain’t no freaking QB worth a **** coming here to play.

Its not that easy just pulling a QB, especially when your options are a guy who literally can’t throw and a frosh.

I agree at a certain point the turnovers command it. I think the coach needs to tell him he’s pulled next fumble.

Once that toothpaste is out of the jar, its tough to get back in.
