So consistently the agressive playcalling worked... the passive didn't

The run JJTBC up the middle twice then a roll out desperate 3rd down pass consistently failed. As did the short FG try.

But the more aggressive stuff -- going for it on 4th down. The 3rd down heave from the shadow of our endzone up to Skow saved us. Throwing it deep on 3rd down at the end of the game. The more aggressive option runs, The wheel route. Almost all of that worked.

Lesson here?

Through radical plastic surgery, Fitz has retired to Elvis' Island and Steve Spurrier now coaches the Cats?

I felt the same way watching in person, but I just can't see the OL/DL well live. If anyone finds out when the 60 minute replay will air on BTN, please post.

3pm Chicago time tomorrow, Sept. 4, for NU-Nevada 60 minute replay on BTN

yeah, stats are for losers, but it's still nice to see that the Cats dominated the Time of Possession. Tends to make life a lot easier for the defense.

Thanks. Not sure why, but my cable channel program guide never identifies which teams are playing for the 60 minute replay game segments.

This team has a couple stars in JJTBC and Thorson, enabling the team to pass or run at any time. More passing on first and second was required to loosen up the excellent run defense Nevada showed us. But nooooooo, NU continued to run into a wall the entire first half.

Who cares? They made the changes they needed to make and they won. Do you have any idea why they did it that way? Do you know how it fit into the game plan and why they waited until H2 to make changes?

I do. JJTBC got a couple games wear and tear because there was nowhere to run. IMO, that's a poor use of his talent. And Thorson's talent.

A big part of competitive sports is to keep your opponent off balance and guessing. I dislike watching my team play to the opponent's strengths. I would really like to know why they did it that way. Yes we won, but that was in spite of this backward approach.

I am no expert.

But it seems to me that facing a smaller defense with a 3-man front, the old school football approach would be to run right at them, dominate time of possession, and have them on rubber legs by the 4th quarter. Especially if the traditional strength of your squad was the run game.

If after two quarters that has not started getting you points, then you might shift to an alternate game plan if you are a good enough team with good enough players to have an alternate game plan. Then, as you get into the 4th quarter you still get to take advantage of the rubber-legged defenders that the first two quarters set up for you.

That is just a layman's guess.

We apparently played into Nevada's strengths to the tune of more than 500 yards in total offense. Should have had at least six more points the first half (missed chip-shot field goal and fumbled in the red zone).
