So, about the Hokies.

Was this just a one time game? Or do we play them again next year in their place or on a neutral court? Wouldn't mind seeing them on the schedule again considering the upward trajectory they are on as a program. Would be a great addition to the non conference schedule.

I think it was just a one off... I'd love to see a home and home as I live in Roanoke. yesterday was sweet! But Roanoke is a strange place, there are very few hokie basketball fans.. A lot of the VT fans (especially the younger ones) cheer for the Hokies in football and either Carolina or Duke in basketball. Alot of that is because JJ Redick is from here and so is George Lynch. As a side bar so is Luke Hancock.

How you can cheer for two different schools in different sports is beyond me. Be like being a Kentucky basketball and tennessee football fan.

Exactly!! It's nothing here to in the same day see someone on FB share a VT football post and a Carolina/dUKe post in the same day it makes no sense... my first question is always who do you pull for when they play each other ? In my experience it's mostly my generation(30 and under) that's like this around here.

Your point is valid but his is accurate. The football team at VT is usually ranked and puke and uncheat are the media whores for the area. Thus, the followings.

Root for UK in basketball and S. Carolina in football. Lived in Lexington until I was 13 then moved to Charleston, SC. Started undergrad at UK then finished at USC. My heart just went where it went with those two sports. And at the time USC was going through an 0-21 stretch while UK was going bowling every year so it wasn’t a bandwagon thing. Think growing up in Lexington engrained UK B-ball into my DNA and nothing was getting it out.

VaTech is in the middle of nowhere. Very remote campus. Blacksburg is a nice little town though.

When I moved to Indy in 1991, I could not believe the number of people who were:
IU Basketball fans and Notre Dame football fans. And they ALL loved AJ Foyt.
Those were the days, I guess.

IU fans didn't get too excited about IU football, and ND fans could've cared less about ND basketball.
Kinda strange.

As for me and my house......BIG BLUE ALL THE WAY IN ALL SPORTS!!!!!

Yeah...I used to live in Roanoke, it’s VT during football season and mostly UNC during basketball season. A lot of them can’t stand UK. Now that they’re winning, they’ll probably jump back on the bandwagon. ACC country is a different world compared to Kentucky and the rest of the southeast.

Lots of truth to this. It's odd but for some reason VT fans for the most part don't care about their basketball team. Old timers on the board will remember that VT won the NIT in the early '70's when it was still a prestigious tournament. The coach was none other that Don Devoe and he left Tech for Tennessee shortly after that. I'll never forget that VT had a guard named Luther 'Tickey" Burden who was the MVP of the NIT that season. Other than the beating our 1996 team gave them in the Midwest Regional I don't recall Tech even being in the tournament on a consistent basis.

Nope, they've only been in a handful of times ... mostly in the 80's, in their Metro Conference days (Dell Curry, Bimbo Coles). Seemed like they kept getting subbed by the selection committee when Greenberg was there, but Buzz has them heading in the right direction.

Don't understand the cheering for different schools in different sports ... just lame. No VT grad that I know pulls for anyone over the Hokies. I grew up in Blacksburg, so am a big Hokie fan, but NEVER ahead of my alma mater. UK first, VT 2nd, then SEC loyalty (in most situations).

Would love to see more frequent matchups between UK / VT in the big sports.

I can't begin to even think about pulling for any other team but UK in ANYTHING!!

Those that do baffle me.

The only time I pull for another school is if and ONLY IF it benefits a UK team.

Do you recall when they won the NIT in the '70's? I could never understand why they kept getting left out under Greenberg.

I love UK football as well as basketball, but I cheer for Bama football as well and all SEC teams when they play out of conference games in bball and football.

About the only exception is UF. I have a hard time pulling for them since the Noah days.

I was in diapers, so I don't remember it, but it was 1973. I remember hearing how they upset "Mighty Notre Dame" hitting a shot at the buzzer to do it. VT won its 4 games by a total of 5 points.
