Don’t see the big deal other than his dismissal of the man’s sacrifice. That’s real nice considering Crenshaw’s sacrifice avenging the loss of Pete’s father and the other Americans killed at the WTC during 9/11.
Yes. His dad was a firefighter and was killed when one of the buildings collapsed. He’s got a lot of demons that he, like most entertainers, deal with and his outlet is through comedy. He’s a pretty funny guy.

I have watched SNL for a long time, even in the times when people said it sucked and it wasn't as good as the old days, which people pretty much say all the time regardless of whether it's good. But the last couple years I've watched less and less and this year I haven't watched any of the four or so episodes. I'm not boycotting it or anything, I just find it tedious and predictable and not at all funny.
Trump is ruining comedy or maybe I should say comedians reaction to Trump is ruining comedy. Things have become so tribal. Hitting the side you don't like is trumping (no pun intended) humor. Shows like SNL and the other late night shows are like political rallies and political rallies aren't funny.
Alec Baldwin was arrested Friday for punching a guy in NYC over a dispute over a parking space. This is a great comedy setup if I've ever heard one and from a review of this weeks SNL they did no jokes on it. How can you pass on such a great setup? And of course the answer is, he's in our political tribe so we can't joke about him. It is simply dull.
BTW, the review said it was mentioned but at the end of the cold open when they were doing a Fox News bit and they ended it by saying "And coming up next, news of troubled actor Alec Baldwin's arrest AND LIVE FROM NEW YORK, IT'S SATURDAY NIIGHT." So they did mention it but just as a device to segue into to "LIVE FROM...." stuff rather than as a joke.

They could have had Darrell Hammond in to play Trump (who IMO is way better at it than Baldwin anyway) and had the skit be that Trump is so pissed off at Baldwin for poking fun at him on SNL that he's hiring some guy to go to NYC and find Baldwin and provoke a fight with him so he'll get thrown off of SNL. That's a good idea and one that took five seconds off the top of my head and I'm not a professional comedy writer. And plus, it would be poking fun at Trump in a funny way, unlike 90% of the fun they poke at Trump that is just hatred instead of thoughtful.
ETA: And this just occurred to me. Darrell Hammond is famously pissed off about Baldwin getting to play Trump on SNL instead of him. Part of the natural dialogue of the Trump character in the bit describe above would be stuff like "I'm so damn sick of Alec Baldwin playing me on SNL." It would be great coming out of the mouth of Darrell Hammond, who really is sick of Alec Baldwin playing Trump on SNL.
