He actually has a nice stroke from the arc. Probably needs to get tougher on defense to make up for lack of quickness. Also, while his stroke looks good, he appears to press on shots and not be fluid within the offense. I have no idea how much of that is system vs. himself. If he become a reliable shooter, he can help out a lot. We will see in November / December whether he is able to take the next step.
He is one of several players that could be a lot better than they have been
His problem probably has been confidence
In a zone ? The perimeter?
Man to Man? The worst offensive player on the other team.
Good Coaches can always make it work.
Coach tried hard to find a defensive spot for him last year. He even played the 5.

They played zone and it was a good zone.
When Hyatt, Mag and Miller were in, they pressed…and it was a good press.
I pay the bare minimum attention to recruiting.
But even I remember him being branded an elite 3pt shooter coming in.

He's not an elite shooter. He's been recruited over and I think it's a long shot he sees much action.
He could be an elite shooter but you need more to play in the Big 10. Foster Loyer got processed off Michigan State and then shot 44% from 3 at Davidson. Jaheam Cornwall was a 40+% shooter at Gardner-Webb but barely saw the floor after grad transferring to Penn State. Charlie Easley was a walkon at Nebraska who earned a scholarship but was terrible when he played in games. The last two seasons he's shot 47% at South Dakota State. On and on it goes.
I don’t doubt he is a good shooter. It hasn’t translated to the court YET. Pike is going to give him minutes at the 4 next season. If he knocks down some shots and gets some confidence he will be in for an increased role.

Oskar can shoot. Needs to show he can guard the 4 and rebound to get minutes. He showed defensive effort last year and even tried to draw charges. The physicality of the game seemed too much for him at times, lack of confidence, trouble staying on his feet.
I wouldn't count on Oskar, but you never know... mods say how amazingly athletic he is so it's possible it comes together for him. More likely he doesn't see significant minutes without injuries to Hyatt or Mag to clear minutes for the 4

Offense isn't the kids problem. He doesn't guard any position on the floor well enough to earn significant minutes at this point. He basically cost us a win up at UMass this season because of it.
Not to say he isn't capable of improvement, but we all know Pike's MO with these sorts of things. He's gonna need to show it first. It'll be a big storyline moving into next season.

Would love to see Oskar improve his defense so he can be on the floor a bit more. He has the size and the touch to be a stretch 4 for us. He’s also a lefty which gives him a natural advantage. If he develops a good head fake and quick first step he can go strong to the rim and draw fouls against opposing bigs who help on D.
I don't think Oskar is a big story line at all. He's basically the 3rd string 4 (or 4th if you count Reiber)
He would be a luxury at this point if he turns into something but expectations are pretty low to the point where he really isn't a story line at all

The downside I see from him is he is slow and soft on defense and cannot create his own shot. The upside is he has a sweet stroke just needs yo get out there more and play but he will gave to rely on his mates to work him open for shots
Nobody thought Reiber would be a story either…just saying. Pike will give him every chance to earn minutes. Let’s see if the kid responds.
I said Reiber was a baller for the beginning. One of the very very few though. Oskar came in a year before and has shown less. He's further down the depth chart. It could happen, but it seems unlikely.
My point was just you said Oskar's development would be a big story line going into the season... but I don't think it will be much of a story at all. More like an afterthought unless he surprises.
If Pikiell did not think he has a chance to continue to develop and possibly contribute he probably would have been in the transfer portal. I actually thought he would go transfer portal.
I am not saying one way or another....time will tell.
It’s all about the defense with Oskar . I really do not see where a fits in without a major improvement in defense (and rebounding )
Blah, Blah, Blah, no one has seen enough of him to say what he can do or cant do. When your in the game with Geo, Harper, McConnel, Cliff your not exactly 1st choice to run the ball through. This is his year to step up and get real mins to show us what he is capable of.
Oskar isn't the type of player you run your offense through anyway. He's a floor spacer on offense, not a creator or one on one scorer

the 4 spot has available minutes. He’ll get a chance. On the plus, 10 minutes a game could lead to couple 3 pointers, valuable bench minutes we will need
I also think his shot is a bit too slow.
Basically he needs to be left wiiiide open to be a threat
I kinda like Rieber's answer to getting beat because of lack of quick.. he just reframes the problem as one of getting to where he can block the upcoming shot from behind. I think Palquist has the height/length to do the same.. if he can jump, and I assume he can.
Maybe. Add Derek Simpson (he a straight up baller) to the press grouping and you really could go with each style for half the game. It would be tough for teams to prepare for essentially two teams within one.

I'm surprised he's still on the team. I was sure he was a prime candidate for the transfer portal - thought it would have been better for both parties. As it is, this is his chance to contribute.
If Palmquist can step up in this regard it does preserve Rieber to backup Cliff.
well.. some site says he is now 6'8" and 220.. the average weight of NBA teams is shown here... 200 is below the average which includes all positions.. and power forwards should be heavier.. beefier. If he adds 10 lbs of muscle this offseason.. and it doesn't completely screw up his shot.. could be something
I was with you. Reiber's HS tape showed a pretty polished big capable of scoring from all 3 levels. Decent handle too.
Oskar, on the other hand, never passed the eye test. Methodical and slow.
Oskar can be an effective 3 point shooter against a zone defense. That’s where I see him at this point.
I expect him to be in the rotation this season.
