That Rutgers and Schiano are holding off until after the Penn St game is played on Nov.30th out of respect for Nunzio and not to lessen his time as Interim HC by ( essentially) taking the job away from him before the season is over and having him coach the last game as a HC already replaced.

Schiano has the votes already and his hiring will be approved during a conference call Dec 2nd morning setting up the afternoon press conference announcing Schiano being hired.

This speculation is as good as any in my opinion and I'm sure everyone will be saying this about it:

Would make sense. Or how about letting Nunzio announce Schiano at halftime tomorrow for the 2020 season. Shiano drops rain poncho with hood and is standing next to Nunz.

That would be stupid. The sooner Schiano can hit the recruiting trail the better. He could also announce that Nunzio is on his staff, which would allow him to finish the year as HC without distraction.

Nunzio is the HC thru the end of this season no matter what. That is 8 days from now.

Greg would be announced as the HC for 2020 and beyond. No conflict with Nunzio finishing out the season.

Recruiting is paramount. The angle that announcing Schiano’s hire undermines Nunzio takes a backseat to pulling together a new staff and getting out on the recruiting trail (transfer portal, JUCOs, high school athletes). There is no question Nunzio will be an asset on the new staff if he stays. Nunzio has done a terrific job. We will probably be lucky to keep him. Other teams in the Big Ten would love to add a NJ guy “of note” to their staff.

Think you are probably right. Timing makes sense and it does show respect to Coach Nunzio who will very likely be retained in some capacity. I can certainly wait 8 days and agree it is the right thing to do and Nunzio deserves it.

Or , or.. maybe Nunzio Camp announces that he will allow Greg to coach in some capacity next season.
He’d be a great DB coach/assistant head coach

My suspicion is that Schiano as a free agent has more freedom to talk to perspective coaches and build his team then he would as hired coach. I know with recruiting there are limits on what any person can do with regards to money and contributions. But in terms of talking with HS coaches or players does he have more freedom now then he would being the announced coach of RU. I also think this gives him time to organize and plan so that once the announcement is made you will see rapid fire activity that carries into early signing day.

Schiano has donated money to RU, so he is therefore a booster of the University, thus as a booster he is not allowed to have any contact with any possible recruit, until hired as a coach

If that's the case then the real advantage is his ability to talk to college coaches and not having to ask permission.

Here is my take (and I have no sources, this is just my opinion). There are two possibilities. One, the deal itself is done but the financing is a little tricky and lining it up in such a way that the BOG approves is still a work in progress or two, the deal is done and the BOG is ready to approve but I think that Schiano has too much respect for both Eric and the seniors to take away from their day. He knows that an announcement this week or on Saturday would turn the day into being all about him. So, if number two is correct we could easily get an announcement early next week, if number one is true then the announcement date is very much a moving target. The third possibility of course is that the deal falls through. That could happen at any time. So, time will tell.

Schiano is not hitting the road as soon as soon as he signs on the dotted line. He’s going to evaluate recruits and team needs, and build a staff that can effectively recruit with him. Nothing he can’t do right now (save for formal conversations with his future staff). Two weeks isn’t going to make a difference. Announce the week after the season out of respect for Nunzio and staff and current players, and he can still hit the ground running.

This theory is wishful thinking. You announce him as soon as possible.

The national buzz that could have been created by announcing him at halftime with Eric Legrand is another clear sign that RU blew it. 150th anniversary came and went without any noticeable recognition for RU.

What is the infatuation with Nunzio? Good guy but we haven’t been mopping up on recruiting since his addition. If he is retained ok, if not oh well, I’m sure schiano is filling the slot with a better option.

Bottom line, The deal is held up somewhere and we are wasting valuable time on the recruiting front. And if this doesn’t happen, we will never recover.

Nunzio is truly the nuclear option...flood was rock bottom, ash was subterranean...Nunzio is a nuclear holocaust...again nice guy but a hs coach is not a big ten coach...if we don’t get this done we should join the MAC

Why would he do any of that if RU hasn’t indicated that they have a deal? It’s not charity work. Although, you could argue that we season ticket holders should get a charitable deduction for our purchase. Ha ha

Anyone other than Schiano or a real BIG name coach is a loss. No one else will be able to turn this program around. Not Nunzio or even any other Schiano level coaches would be able to pull it off.

Give me a break with this "out of respect for Nunzio". I actually like him and he has done a good job of holding things together. That being said people are taking the 21 points against Ohio St to say the team has really improved. The last 7 points were scored late in the 4th quarter. Ohio State took their starters out 3 minutes into the 3rd quarter. They could have scored 80. If the score was 80-14 would people think Nunzio has made the team better? Nunzio is not a Big Ten Head Coach or Offensive Coordinator. If they give him either job now then Rutgers is not serious about competing in the Big Ten. Make him a position coach and maybe 6-8 years down the line he will be ready for something bigger.

how about it is an awful lot of money and paying for the package, i.e. salaries and facilities' upgrades, needs to be solidified.

Like nunzio but if we beat a downtrodden msu boy will we see the nunzio for hc nonsense. A stamp not sure Hobbs doesnt want.

Like nunzio and brother on staff as position coaches.

My sneaky suspicion is that there is no devised plan of where and when to announce and no plan to let Greg recruit before being named to beat the NCAA rules.
If and when they come to terms, they will also announce. It is pretty simple. At this point, it can be pretty confusing though as Rutgers has not brought in anyone to interview so it looks like they are putting everything into one basket. If you ask me, quite foolish. Or, maybe their backup plan has already been discreetly contacted by the search firm but the person they are targeting or the people are currently coaching and cannot interview until the regular season ends.

Knowing Rutgers- they will F up on getting Gary and then be shunned by all of their backup plans and we are stuck with someone like Golden or they actually do promote Nunzio...
