Since Purdy apparently has some issues with performance anxiety I say start Smothers in The Big House.

Maybe Purdy will be calmer if he comes in off the bench, if needed.

Hoo boy, c'mon Huskers!

If it's Chubba we may lose by 50. Smothers might at least be able to keep the score down. Harbaugh needs playoff style points, he'll keep his foot on the gas against either one.

Honestly I don't think it's going to matter much to the end result on Saturday whether its Purdy or Smothers. Probably the best option is to plan to try them both to see if one or the other can have a hot hand (or at least a better hand than the other).

Hargod does not need any style points out of this game IMO. His and Michigans chances rest on beating OSU...do that and they most likely go to the playoffs...nobody is going to be swayed if they beat us by 50, if they then go on lose to OSU

More important is Casey Thompson out for the year or will he be available against Wisconsin and Ioway..

Sucks that CT is out. Totally boned any chance we had at making some sort of salvage of the season. I guess we emphasize the run. Run the clock down to under 10 seconds every play. Try to shorten the game and keep the D on the sideline. Probably need to try and get Trey open deep early, just to threaten them and keep them honest. If we miss on those, just pound it, run the clock as much as humanely possible and hope the D came ready to deal. who knows. I think the D will come out swinging. I mean, Rutgers had a good half against them. We have moved the ball well against some pretty good defenses at times the last few games. just need to maintain and actually score. uggh

It'll be Smothers, and Whipple will try to make him a pocket passer so he can prove he was the smarter one by playing Chubba last week.

2 words: offensive line Brandon—I mean blocking

All jokes aside, it should obviously be Smothers

I don't think Michigan has played a run first QB yet this year. Smothers forces the Wolverine D into unfamiliar territory.

Purdy IMO would just get mauled.

Smothers comes out under center and runs a triple option first play of the game?

Nah, it'll be Purdy. He practices great.

I'm fine with Chubba Smothers OR Luke Purdy. 220, 221, whatever it takes.

The problem with Purdy is not only his anxiety issues in games, but the interceptions he throws, as he still doesn't read defenses well.

Smothers throws a better ball and can run. Every time Purdy drops back and floats one off his back foot falling backwards I have flashbacks of Tommy Armstrong. Please anyone but Purdy and let the chips fall where they may.

BTW, enjoy Veterans Day to all who served. Any combat veterans on the board, an extra tip of the cap.

Purdy is no Tommy Armstrong by any stretch of the imagination.

It doesn’t matter who starts today. We are just overmatched in this one.

If MJ’s and Whipple’s game plan is to shorten the game I won’t fault them. Let’s just get out with no major injuries today!

Smothers. Line up 3 out wide, a TE, and an RB. Send WR's downfield, that makes it 7 on 7 within 15 yards of line of scrimmage. TE runs 5 - 10 yard routes, RB flares out into flat, Smothers has a number of options, including a couple easy throws, or can run without there being a scrum of guys to deal with. Do this every play, and we win. Do it not, and each one of our huskers will die on that field.

He’ll start preserving his starters early in the 3rd quarter…

Not confident in either. Both have poor and limited field vision. Smothers can scramble. Not sure what’s up with Purdy, he just seems anxious out there
