Sure, I have heard the screamers at the Crest games and the complainers afterwards, but it's not any different with Coach Clark than with previous coaches. You think Crest's spoiled fans didn't yell at Barnes or Kirby?

I've been to the Horseshoe Club meetings, too, and I have a son on the team as well. Any REASONABLE-MINDED Crest supporter knows this year is a building year. The team is still working out its identity, as it is not able to win the way it did the last two years. Also, if you haven't paid attention, Crest is playing a TON of sophomores because there is a small junior class in terms of numbers, and the team is now also seeing the injury bug. In my opinion, there are some folks who just need to take a step back, take a deep breath, and let these coaches and players work through the team's issues.

Kirby couldn't do anything right his first couple years according to some of those fans.

I'm disappointed in the Crest fan base for a different reason, too. The reason you can hear the screamers in the stands so much this year is because everybody else is sitting on their hands. It's like they've gone numb since last year. Two years ago (the first 16-0 season), the stands were filled and the crowd was LOUD. Last year during the second 16-0 season, the crowd began to dwindle a bit and didn't yell as much. This year, the size of the crowd is about the same, but it's like a dang Presbyterian church out there. On third down, only about three fans hollering for the defense to make a stop...and the PLAYERS all notice it. If you're a Crest fan out there, support your team.

BellyNole,
Ive been a fan of the program for many years and I'm afraid our fans have always been a wine and cheese crowd at home football games. And probably always will be. Rarely, do they get excited, regardless of the score or teams record. I've never understood it. Now on the road in the playoffs, we have seen the best fans Crest has to offer. Parkland, TC Roberson, Page, West Charlotte. Those were epic games that the fans showed up and represented.

OK Ill bite,
the fact that we are even in the conversation of competing speaks volumes of our kids and staff. What you are seeing is crust fans disappearing like a magic act now that the struggle buss appears to be pulling in. Im enjoying our teams success, we could lose to crest and Ill still enjoy our teams progress we made. Why is this years Crest team so average? gotta play with the talent Boiling Springs actually produces huh? and some fans/club members are already grumbling...I laugh at that fact. I wouldnt necessarily say the Crest team is average, they have good athletes still and some holes in their armor like most teams are suppose to have. Guess you guys are not used to that in the last 3 years...

A little clarification to your comments.
  • Your team is competing because Coach Devine bought a winning attitude with him and put some coaches in better positions. Basically the same kids, just better coaching and attitudes.
  • Crest fans come and go just like the Burns and South Point fans do. We couldn't find more than 2 of you online last year and now there are several. Winning does that.
  • You WILL lose to Crest and you will still have a successful season.
  • This years Crest team is average due to the law of averages. Crest has been in the top 5 of 3A teams for 6 consecutive years. It happens to every program. Look at Independence, won 7 straight championships back in the day and cannot seem to beat anybody now. Butler was the king of Charlotte and now Mallard Creek is. South Point used to be the best in Gaston County but now Stuart Cramer or Hunter Huss will probably win the Big South.(snicker, snicker)
  • Some Crest fans/club members grumble regardless of the teams record. 32-0 the last 2 seasons and some ignorant fans think they could do a better job coaching. I would say you have your share of those idiots too.
  • Yes we do have good athletes and some holes to work on but doesn't everyone? Ive been told that Crest will start 7 sophomores on defense and as many as 5-6 on offense this week. Our sophomore class is loaded with talent and with injuries to several starters a few more sophs will get a chance to play this week. No one is crying about it or using it as an excuse. It is what it is.

Charger Strong,
I am glad your sons grades have improved but I still believe that each kid and his family is responsible for his/her own education. Every child that enters Crest High has the same opportunities to learn and excel. I truly believe all coaches encourage the kids to do better in school. I kinda get sick of parents blaming high school coaches cause their kid didn't get recruited or flunked off the team. We have seen too many kids with college football ability end up working at the mill or hanging out because they were too stupid to pay attention in class or get to school. Don't blame the coaches, blame the parent(s) or grandparents or whoever is raising the kid.

So what makes you so sure crest will beat burns ....from a pure x's and o's standpoint tell me where crest is better than burns ? Running backs - burns , Qb- burns , oline - burns , dline - burns , db- crest , special teams - crest ; linebackers - even. Bryson allen and tj roberts are the two of most underrated players in the county ....just my take after week 6. Im sure yours will be way different.

I agree. It nice to have a coach who cares about grades but nowadays there is just so much pressure to win its hard to expect a coach to ensure 70-80 kids are doing well in school.

Away fans are always better IMO. A small visitors section packed with people who are there to watch and support a team vs a spread out crowd there to socialize.

linebackers even? Come on now Foster and Brintley are monsters not to mention Spikes. Wide receivers Crest. Rb ( not a fair comparison because yal have injuries and we have a very offensive line) but the sophmore kid Pryor is special for us. O Line ( ill give you that and our d line is very solid.

Interesting info from an article in The Shelby Star.....

Offense: Shelby is setting a hot pace, scoring 41.5 points per game and averaging 401 total yards of offense each week. Burns is scoring at a 33.8 clip with Kings Mountain close behind, also at 33 points per contest. Crest is producing 19.2 points each week.

Defense: The Golden Lions’ defense is giving up only 8.8 points and 115 yards per contest. The Crest Chargers are allowing 11 points and 210 total yards per game. Burns is giving up 14 points and 194 total yards each week. Kings Mountain has permitted 21.3 points and 238.7 yards to opponents.

Congrats to all Cleveland co. teams tonight..crest would run a play for 4-5 yards, next play they would back it up 5-10 because of stupid penalties......defense is still looking good even with players still hurt....not much sign of offense in first half, besides the plays called back for flags...hope 25 is ok he was looking good then got hurt.....over all got rolling in 2nd half looked much better....better be ready next week against KM..

Coaches need to have plays for the offense sent in with receivers so they can correctly line up in time to get the play off and every player knows his job,,,,,way to many flags that wouldn't happen if they had time....line did a better job blocking and 2 had time to throw good looking passes in 2nd half,,,we have a lot of young men doing their best..that's why I go to the games,I don't expect us to win every game every year but it sure has been nice!!!!! Just my 2 cents, not putting anybody down....
