Paul Crysrt said in his interview talking about Kaden Johnson that they got his commitment last week.

After years on the trail, good chance our staff can read these kids. At least as well as the average coaching staff and probably better.

Not to make an unnecessary dive into history, but you guys remember the Pelini and Riley recruiting years. This staff would grade higher than those two staffs for both Hard Work (especially head coach Frost over P and R) and this staff spending their time more productively.

Slusher appears to be a unique guy. That being said, I don't believe he had any impact on the acceptance of a Top 250 LB in Johnson and vice versa.

Regardless, if I had to peg two guys to transfer that Nebraska was in on, but didn't get it would be Slusher and Josh Griffis.

I would like to believe this is a bogus story. There are so many pieces still up in the air with scholarships that they could have accepted a commitment from both Slusher and Johnson. You always have room for top tier talent.

Chryst probably told him to tell our coaches he was committed to Nebraska, to mess with our recruiting class and possibly get us to turn away another linebacker recruit.

Personally, I think recruits should be able to sign the LOI intent any time after the start of their senior year of high school. It would cut down on a lot of this signing day drama.
I was thinking the same thing the chryst had Johnson string Nebraska coaches along.

I just read where Callahan said Slusher came forward and wanted N. They were tired of being strung along by Johnson. Huskers were calling it their flex spot..meaning they planned on taking 3 HS LB and 2 jucos all along. And I guess they had reached their number for db as well. They went with the " bird in the hand" theory and lost. I am sure they also accepted slushers commitment based on their worry about francois indecisiveness. There are a ton of moving parts but we lost in this battle. Thoughts? I would have personally waited since it is such a position of need, and he was deciding in the morning. I believe Francois commitment made slusher to chose other option..also why I think he decided to sign later at 2. If we had guessed right we could of come out with Johnson and Francois.
The staff may have screwed themselves. You either want him or you don't. If you want him, you stick with him through signing day. We could have had our lower priority targets delay signing a bit to make sure we had room for everybody. It's not my decision but it seems silly to stop recruiting a kid you made a priority all throughout the year just because he wasn't 100% sure yet where he wanted to go.

The whole recruiting process is stupid. Verbal commitments, unofficial/official visits, in-home visits, quiet periods, dead periods, signing period, blah blah blah. Name one other process in the entire human experience that is as stupid and effed up as football recruiting?
The electoral college, Nebraska property taxes, Missouri River flood control, and political action committees.

Personally, I love the signing day drama. It's just nice to be back winning our share of the battles.

Sounds like nobody screwed anybody. Chryst claims he had a commitment from the kid a week before signing day. Either the kid told our coaches and they tried anyway OR he didn't tell them and listened to their last pitch and didn't flip. He would have been icing on the cake but I like the cake the best. Man I can eat a whole yellow or lemon sheet cake with no icing in one sitting.

Assuming everyone is being truthful..there is a scenario that works. Huskers side says they put pressure on him to make a decision. Everyone assumed at the last minute. BUT if we put the press on him right after Greene visited and committed..he could of easily called Wisky and committed. Meanwhile slusher said he wanted N. Francois made slusher expendable, so maybe everyone did come out a winner.

Slusher screwed himself by selecting the pig pen.
This more than anything. It likely will effect his future, and not in a good way.
Getting to play a few more games on saturday vs playing games on sundays, well, it was his decision.
But, in all fairness, not sure we fought for him too hard in the end.
But even so, pig suey?
