Skal is too easily pushed around and pushed out of position. He doesn't present himself to the ball very well. There is a big learning curve for him at this level. It's going to take time. Tonight, though, in Skal's defense, the guards should have dribbled less and passed more.

Tons of talent but it is going to take him longer to adjust to the college game. He's got to learn how to take a bump and not back down.

he's never in condition to get the ball. He's like hunched over, and really no good for guards to post him up.

he doesn't seem like he has his man blocked up.

Either way, he looks really uncomfortable out there.

Bigs were digging out garbage baskets all night. The absence of Ulis at the point was the underlying problem. Other guards weren't successful leveraging the bigs in the offense. It was a predictable problem. I'd say the team learned a lot tonight.

Like that one time he got the ball over in the corner for whatever reason and immediately got it taken away. Why they even gave him the ball there is a mystery.

He will be okay. Cal I'd trying to push him to another level. He is not going to let him settle for being a kid who floats.

We weren't playing a big team. I don't know what the bench instructions were, but to me it was mostly 1 on 1 or 1 on 3........whatever, just don't pass the ball:weary:

I don't see any excuse, Brisco is supposed to be #1 PG FR. We're 9 games in. ..It's not October. Brisco and Murray have played much better against better teams.

Still...1 field goal attempt?
How many minutes did he play?
Get an offensive rebound or something if guards arent feeding the post or sprint in transition and beat other big down floor for a bunny......many ways to score even without posting up.

He is not in the same league yet as our past rim protectors we have been spoiled. The talent is there just has to get his timing down. But missing two years of playing time is showing.

The way he's been playing makes me wonder if we won't have him next year.

If Willis or LEE had a game like Skal had you guys would crucify them
You have the had time establishing the difference between freshman and juniors. Skal is a baby. Look at him. Look at towns during the first 6 or 7 games last year. Or Davis or Nerlens. You're smarter than what you've shown tonight.

Not having Ulis in the game hurt Skal 's performance more than other factors.

Offensively, yes, Skal nees Ulis. But Skal does not need Ulis to rebound, defend and block shots. I dont care if he scores or not, he has to be a presence on the glass and on defense. And he is really bad at both. Like really, really bad.

Yeah he is young and by March I think he will dominate on the O end... My concern with him is his D... Doesn't have the timing or put the scare in into teams.

Not a game for Skal to play well. He hurt us defensively as Ill St played 5 out and beat him off the dribble with ease - offensively, Skal simply does not get in position to receive the ball - very weak lower body. He has a long way to go.

The concerning part is he has had "one of those nights" almost every night so far. I think he had one good half where he hit a bunch of turn around Skal hooks but other than that he hasn't done much of anything so far. This coaching staff is too good to let that continue.

Remember me saying Lee was gonna have a better year than Skal...all of you crucified me for it...i realize we are only 7 games in but Lee has been far more consistent thus far

Skal is the first of Cal's top recruits who doesn't play hard. If you look at the top recruit every year (Wall/Cousins; Knight; Noel, Randle, KAT) all of those guys not only had the talent, but the effort as well.

I'm not sure if Skal is soft, has a low motor, or simply never played top competition and is getting exposed a bit, but whatever the case, he simply takes WAY too many segments of the game off. Most of the time it's been the first half. Tonight, he decided to take the whole game off.

He's averaging almost 15 ppg, 5 RPGs, shooting over 60percent from the field along with blocking 2 and a half per game so no, none of his other games have been nearly as bad as this one, exaggerate much?

No, I don't exaggerate much. If you think he's fine and he doesn't need to improve then have fun with that. The rest of us know there us a lot he is not doing because we don't just watch the ball. If you pan your eyes off the ball and watch what Skal is doing you will understand.
I also don't believe the stats you posted. Do you have a link? Those stats don't seem right to me. Especially after tonight.
Look, this kid can and should dominate teams like Illinois state. If you don't get that then I can't help you.
