Sit Mitchell out for Conference games?

If he is eligible under the NCAA, but not under the new SEC rules, why not just sit him out of SEC contest? Play him in non- conference games and in the NCAA tournament. Would that be workable?

The real question is, why do SEC members insist on punishing themselves and their own league? Stupid rules like this only hurt the SEC.
