9 of 10 are on D. Looks like Buford might make the start at corner opposite Tommi.

I came to post this same pic @inWV , thanks. The reason I was going to post it was so I could say....

Would you just take a look at Ty Robinson! I mean, TAKE A LOOK AT HIM! Just a massive human being.

Buford is Hartzog size and Singleton is a big kid for a safety.

Not in games but they are eligible for this

Piper earned one last year

Apparently the team felt no OL earned it this offseason

Exciting to see a newcomer like Banks earn it
You'd think a RB, TE, hell even HH might be in the running....

Anyway, it's pretty gimmicky to start with. It's a nothing burger.

I do believe the coaching staff has some influence, whether they admit it or not (Sims? All credibility gone)

Two of the guys on this list were called out by name as not living up to the standard during the public practice (butler, Ty)

I think it’s stupid, but whatever. At least we’re within striking distance of the season!

He just didn't see it. HBK posts things quite quickly and sometimes it gets missed due to thread title. We can't read 'em all.
Doubt it. It’s happened multiple times. OP is soft and can’t handle HBK’s based opinions.

The thing that's striking is the size difference between Buford/Hartzog and Hill/Singleton.

I guess I'd like to see any of those single digits guys bumped back to their previous number if they have a subpar game. Make them re-earn it. Just like when they used to temporarily take away a guy's Blackshirt.

I, for one, hated treating blackshirts as something to earn. The tradition was to award them to the defensive starters. That's it. If you're a starter, you've earned it. Not playing like a starter? Demote them. Also, I will go on record of not being a fan of awarding single digits. More gimmicks. Changing your number every year is like changing schools every year.

We're still 5-7 until we're not.
Actually we're currently 0-0. At some point you have to let go of the past and move on. After you've learned all you can from the past it does no good to keep punishing yourself by dwelling on negative thoughts. The same is true in a game. If a QB throws an interception he has to forget about it for the next play. Or if a DB allows a completion, he has to forget about for the next play.

What a bunch of horseshit cliches'.
I've enjoyed the Huskers from 1962-2001. The last 23 years I would like to forget.

C'mon now. There's been some moments in there worth embracing. You want to forget Suh? TMart making KSU look like morons?
Cally made a CCG, and Bo did three times. Things bottomed out during Riley and Frost failed to move the needle.

I do not think you are interpreting that call out correctly. I believe Rhule mentioned those guys by name because he expects them to help set the standard and do the calling out when things aren't up to snuff. Those guys are the leaders in the DL room and probably the top dogs on the entire team. I think that is one of the last pieces of the puzzle to be put together: having your upperclassmen leaders holding people accountable instead of the coaches.

Of course there have been "moments".

This program has forgotten how to win, and a lot of fans have accepted it.

Agreed. Not all of us have time to scrutinize every post in those multiple page threads. I'm glad he posted it as a new topic.

Two offensive line men had to be in the running.
Ben Scott or Micah Mazzccua.

Really not trying to argue with you, I know what you meant. I shouldn't have used the word "moment" either, because Suh was more than that. The best defensive lineman in the history of college football. Watching him wasn't quite the joy of watching a natty, but it was really, really fun.

Also, STILL not trying to argue with you, but I don't buy that thing about fans accepting losing. You hear it a lot, and I don't think it's true. Varying levels of optimism or anger, but everyone wants to win in the worst way.

The reality is this - NU as a title contending team ended with the new century (techically 2001), but played for conference titles four time under Callahan and Pelini. There were great players in this era of all conference and all American caliber. Riley had a nine win season with using players Pelini had recruited. We thought Frost would be a return the greatness, but he turned out to be a dumpster fire of a HC with underpowered assistants.
The college game is much more competitive than it was a quarter century ago, but dominated still by teams that be counted on one hand. NU is not amongst these. So there are going to be losses. In 2024, I'm hoping for a team that can just get out of its own way and play football. And I think Rhule has improved the talent base of the team and has also improved the level of the players that were on the roster when he got here. Jimari went from a rash portal entry to a single digit jersey. So there is reason for hope.

I've said for 3 straight years this team needs to learn how to win.
Getting a team to turn that corner is a lot harder than people think.

Second year for the defense and last year's auditioning of a lot of players has built good depth. Offensively, the addition of Mazzucca, Railoa, Barney, Nelson, Neyor and Banks brings a clear upgrade in talent. Veteran Oline that is servicable and this is also true of the RBs. There is enough there for Rhule, Satt and Raiola to work with.

I'm hopeful this is the year NU overcomes the stigma of losing,
Of those players you mention here, Raiola, Barney, Carter and Neyor who didn't play much at Texas, the others come from losing programs.

I'm already on the record of saying I feel the D can be a total *****. If and when the NU offense quits shooting themselves in the foot, NU can make some noise.

Now we have to get the kicking game and overall ST's to play at a higher than average level.

A lot new pieces have been added to make one think this team can be tough to deal with.

The last piece is the in-game decisions that can make or break a game/season.
Last year left a lot to be desired.
