It's not MSU's to handle.

Exactly. That much should be pretty clear. If Ben Howland (who has repeatedly said he doesn’t know if/when Spoon will be back) doesn’t know, then I can guarantee you nobody in Starkville knows. That means that MSU isn’t running the investigation, they are merely a participant in said investigation. Anyone can then do the math to figure out who is running the investigation, because there is only one other option.

I simply don’t agree how all this was handled. If Nick was going to be gone for the season, they should’ve come out and said it, if nothing else to let the team get into a mindset he’s not coming back.

Lamar’s quote a few games back when he said “we need nick back” or something to that effect let’s me know even the team was on a game by game basis.

I don’t know if that makes any difference in Lamar or anyone else or Wins and Losses, but at least the team knows what to expect. You can punish Nick without punishing the whole team.

You need to know what happened in order to have a legitimate reason for not liking how it was handled. Everything is not the public’s business.

How can you say they are handling it the only way they can when you don't know the exact situation and you don't really know how we are handling it? All we know for sure is that Nick is suspended and the University isn't saying anything to the public. If we are "working with the NCAA" then we are fcked. That never works well.

Not an NCAA issue. A student’s academic integrity at stake. The school has to tread lightly.

Since you are clearly in possession of the facts.. how should it have been handled? I’m asking seriously because I’ve never even heard why he’s sitting to begin with.

My favorite are the people that pay for a premium website that think they are entitled to every behind the scene recruiting story.

Ha...best case scenario? You realize that is essentially a guaranteed expulsion from the university, right?
I assumed that as well, but according to my wife, who works on campus as an advisor, that’s not the case. She said it’s an F for that class that doesn’t qualify for academic forgiveness but that’s it. That’s only if it’s a first offense though.

She was referring to “cheating” in general though. Maybe egregious cheating is different.

What are you talking about dude? The Smart tape is from 2017. Peters was already at MSU in 2017 so why the hell would he be on that tape as well?
DUDE this investigation has been going on for years ...perhaps you should look at the transcripts from the Gatto trial....facts and all

I don’t even think it is that. It is the Pall that is cast over the program because a star player has been suspended with no conclusion settled in 4 weeks. Why still suspended? Why not dismissed? Why not released from scholarship, so that he can go ahead and seek another place to play ball? Or try to earn his way back this fall?

Get a resolution so all parties can move on. Yes, we have won some games without him, but you have to admit that both Aric and Lamar have been in a pretty bad funk since his suspension. Even Perry has played sporadically over the past few games.

Don’t penalize the team if Nick screwed up and it is not NCAA violation related. Cut him loose, or suspend him for the rest of the season. It is not hard to make that announcement. Unless he is already committed to transferring out at season’s end.

Well first off, the university has changed its policy in the past 10 years then, because I personally know of several guys who got kicked out for a year for cheating. Secondly, if what you say is true, this goes way beyond just cheating on a test or else it would already be resolved and Howland would be in full control of the length of suspension.

Unless there is a deeper ongoing internal investigation taking place throughout the athletics department and no final penalties or sanctions will be announced until the administration is comfortable that the investigation is complete.

I’d fully agree if this was a straight forward situation, and I have zero inside knowledge about it. However, I think it’s fairly clear at this point that this isn’t a simple violation of team rules or even anything that the NCAA is involve with.

I’m afraid that one of two things is going on

1) it’s an academic issue, and while the school obviously has something on Nick, they’re still trying to understand just how deep it runs

2) there’s a woman involved

I really don’t see how it’s possibly anything other than one of the above scenarios

Your first guess is a really good one.

Some of you pansy 17s need to come up off the Nick scoop and let us know what’s going on. For gosh sakes that’s what the board is for.

Nick thought he was calculating his off the court decisions but he forgot everybody keeps tabs on student athletes. It will all come out after the season and it’s not a woman.

This was the policy when I left school a few years ago. I think it was Fred Brown who got caught cheating twice and that is why he was expelled.

It just doesn't seem like academic cheating to me unless the university changed their policy and feels like they need to punish athletes for their first offense. I'm sure he isn't the first basketball player who has gotten caught cheating.
