really? we need guards that are legit. A guy that Beilen or Hurley is interested in. I trust their judgment. We have virtually nothing on our team. Sina provides two years of top flight experience to a woeful inexperienced team.
rolling the dice with guys that probably wont come here is nice. You can recruit both. In the end I think he winds up at URI and dances both his junior and senior year
Don't worry - he won't come here. Rather have a guy with low D-1 offers - ugh

and even though Gibbs said he was staying at SHU and even with his incident on the court, I would take both in a package deal if we have the room available...I know most do not want this.
Does Sina fit in our system?
He'd be playing with SO and JR Sanders AND JR and SR Williams. I'd think our primary defense would be man to man. Is he playing off the ball? Is he OK playing 20 MPG backing up both Sanders and Williams (or a better 2 guard we recruit?)
Would Sina (or any non graduate transfer) essentially take Bishop Daniels spot or does he take our last spot for next year?

Personally, I would rather have Otis Livingston. He would have 4 years and is a true point who dishes and keeps everyone involved. He also can score when needed and the kid oozes with confidence but is respectful to everyone on the court, has a GPA of 3.8 and his father played PG for Kansas and Larry Brown when they won the national championship.I realize that a forward is our preference but we only have one open scholarship for next year and Sina would have to sit out next year. I would rather get a kid from a NJ school who will be first team All State and I firmly believe that Otis the way he is playing will make first team All State along with Briscoe and Lowe from Ewing and 2 other guys. We need to get connected with the state coaches. Colicchio told me that he didn't even think Eddie knows who he is. That is a little disturbing if Eddie and his staff is not connecting with the top coaches in New Jersey. If by chance a second ship should open for us for next season we better jump on Otis. If not I think this will bite us in the long run. Several news articles have been written that say the same thing that I am.
If Gibbs bolts SHU, the feeling is that he would want to play for Team that has a good shot at the NCAAs. I don't think that Gibbs and Sina will go as a package because Gibbs will have many suitors and can pretty much write his ticket to anywhere he wants to go. Sina should probably play at Atlantic 10 level or below. Willard gave him every opportunity to prove that he can play at the Big East level but he only averaged about7 points playing an astounding 32 minutes per game. Sina is a great kid and heady player, but he's not quick enough to play at a high level.

But coaches always want to send their fringe D-1 to mid-major players to Rutgers because it looks good on their resumes.

The only Linden player that I can remember who went to RU was Wally Dixon who only played one year at RU. From what I have heard Otis has a 3.8 gpa and is a straight A student. Wally I think formed the street basketball that was on MSG for a while. His son averages 9 ppg for Linden's current team but is not a high riser like Wally was when he could jump out of the gym. Wally drove the base line and dunked over Marcus Camby in the high light of that season. Wally averaged almost 10PPG as a freshman. He could have really been good. Aaron Howard from LHS started 4 years at Villanova. many others have played at D-1 schools. Daryl Devero played at SHU, Tate played at Penn State, Ted Zawaicki played for Wake Forest. There are many more. Desmond Wade set assist records at Houston and finished at Fairfield as he left Houston after 2 years when Tom Penders was let go. Several other guys I would have to check back as to where they played.

No he couldn't - Waliyy had so far to go - he was a product of huge hype coming in. His hype and career was probably very similar to Savon Huggins. I remember thinking when seeing him this guy doesn't know how to play basketball - he couldn't shoot, dribble or pass - those are huge issues when you're a guard. He dominated in HS because he was just that superior of an athlete. He could jump out of the building and finish but that was about it. He was an extremely raw player who had a TON of work to do. It's a shame because both Waliyy and Savon seem to be really stand up, good guys.
As far Sina goes beggars can't be choosers. We are most definitely beggars. Under normal circumstances I really wouldn't want Sina....unfortunately there have not been normal circumstances here for ages.

Although we desperately need players, at some point you have to cut the cancer out and let the team rebuild. Adding kids who are known to be problems is a band aid. If they come they are only going to play for themselves. THey don't need to buy in or work on defense, because they know the coach can't bench them. We have been dealing with this for awhile now, and it perpetuates the losing culture.
IMHO, at this point its better to jut get the kids you can, even if they are low to mid-major talents, and let them buy in, work hard, and slowly build up from there.

It truly amazes me that some fans keep coming up with reasons for not wanting players that can score but are perfectly happy in bringing more complementary type players who have shown time and again that they will only perpetuate the mediocrity of Rutgers mens basketball.
Went to see my local high school team play last night. We have a guy who is going to play D1 soccer. He can do everything Sina can do and somethings better.

Is it true Ridge only defeated Columbia 46-44 tonight? What happened? I think Columbia was only like 9-15.
Sina could be a decent player with 4 strong players around him but I think he would be a mess on next year's Rutgers team.
He's not athletic, not quick, not a good defender and very small. His positives are he has a high basketball IQ and can shoot a little.
Although a high BB IQ will be desperately needed with next year's returnees, it will almost be wasted since we are still working on fundamentals. Not a good fit IMO.

I only saw him play once....against Rutgers, so, take this with a grain of salt.
He looked like a very good on the ball defender. He seemed to pressure the guard very well.

Think about Balance. We have a lot of athletes for next year, a high IQ player in Williams and Lewis, and could use more of that. Kid's who know when to dribble, when to pass, how to make the switch on a high screen. How to take directions. Sina is a high iq guard. Could have EJ go with a 3 guard set.
Nonetheless, Sina is not athletic enough to get off his shot. Played high minutes at SH, still never took off. So bring in a athletic, high iq kid. Think like a Mike Williams. Mike Williams next year will be a 10 ppg player.
