This thread is bizarre in so many ways. There are 4 other players on the court with Simpson right now and 3 of the 4, have no ability to create their own offense (Cliff, Hyatt Mag), it's bizarre that somehow the guards are supposed to stand around and "get others involved ".
How exactly does that happen....?? Do we run the offense through Cliff on post ups?? I think we spent all of November and half of December doing that...
Mag has been back for a handful of games....Are we running plays for Mag as a go to player in the post?? Maybe once in awhile.....
Do we run plays for Hyatt, who is already being focused on, by B1G opponents on defense?? I think Hyatt finds enough shot attempts already, not sure what Simpson is supposed to do differently.
If Greene or someone else told me, that Mag, Cliff or Hyatt are 60% FG shooters within 8 to 10 feet, I would agree that Simpson/Davis/Fernandes, should run the offense through those 3 players.
But the reality is, Mag, Hyatt or Cliff are not RHJ, Geo or even Eugene on post ups or as players to "get involved ".....there has to be some sort of track record that indicates, the player we need to "get involved ", can actually score on a consistent basis, when opportunities are there.
I think Simpson assists go up, when Cliff stops mishandling passes and when Mag starts to score more points, when the shots present themselves.
In terms of Gavin, I thought his made basket at OSU, was off a nice pass from Simpson, in transition.
The offense "gets others involved", when Mag, Cliff, Hyatt and others like Gavin, start making plays.....notice I didn't say "making shots".....Mag, Hyatt, Cliff and Gavin have to make "plays".....that means drives when available, passes that are crisper, get an offensive rebound and putback, convert layups in transition by actually filling the lanes.
There are players who are not used to playing faster and ironically, it's strange that those players are the ones fans want to see Simpson and Fernandes and Davis, make more passes to......fill the lanes and make sharper cuts and those plays will be there for Simpson and Fernandes to make.
We have to develop Mag, Hyatt and Cliff, into being players who need to convert more opportunities with more volume or more possessions.
