The point is not the duration of the suspensions. It was clear from the beginning that Young’s suspension was not going to be long based on media reports and that the athletic department actually has a policy that states that a second offense (this Is Young’s first) would have resulted in only 3 games. And Young still has to go through justice system. It was the absurdity and comedy of the Simpson situation in that Simpson, the local police department, and the athletic department all in their own ways demonstrated how big time athletic enterprises all have a hand in whitewashing a messy situation.

The University of Michigan/Ann Arbor Industrial Complex at work:

3:03 am car accident by a 21 year old athlete who the police say was stumbling while opening a door but fails to test for drugs/alcohol, driving a vehicle owned by the athletic department head, lying to police about your name and whether you were driving the car and the only thing that happens to anyone is the kid gets a one game suspension for being out late. Howard said his suspension was for breaking curfew. Is he going to pay the AD’s wife’s deductible to get the car fixed? The light pole that was damaged? No accountability for anyone. All that matters is he was back in time to beat someone better than Nebraska.

Update: read on another thread that Michigan board members had reported that Simpson was drunkenly and publicly acting out at a bar earlier in the evening.
