Would've loved to keep him. Hate this time of year where most/all of the roster turns over, even if the season didn't turn out perfectly.

I’m going to assume he started most games at Elon, came off the bench here, I can see why he’s in the portal. Should go down a level, imo.

He was really big down the stretch the first couple games of big east. He kind of disappeared. I would not be surprised to see this turn out to be Wusu 2.0. He thinks he is worth much more than he should.

Definitely hit a wall at end of January. Through the first 21 games, we were 15-6 and he was great. Averaged 11.2 points on 45.6% FG% and 42.6% from 3. An impressive eFG% of 54.7%.

The final 12, the team slumped (6-6) and he sucked. Shot 30.1% from the Field and 25.0% from 3.

I'd like to keep him at a reasonable price but he'll likely get overpaid based on averaging 10 points ppg and 37% from 3 on a solid BE team.

I would have liked to get simpkins back but it was smart to have a sensible limit on him. Against top competition, Simpkins seemed to be overwhelmed at times and I’d even say to some degree intimidated. Clark and Hines with the priority and limited budget, Simpkins became expendable.

Usually when they hit the portal there gone. Final 12 games as referenced by Fishjam are pretty bad. Maybe something with his brother is in the works?

He is probably number 3 on Sha’s list of keepers. I know from the late season threads many here have him ranked the same for retention purposes, after Hines and Clark (in whatever order).

Like all portal related stuff, what ultimately matters is who you replace the departing player with and at what cost.

Also not unheard of for a kid to portal and return. Wusu did 2 years ago. There are other examples, although generally the exception to the rule.

Would have liked him back because he showed promise, had a good team attitude and I believe in the concept of continuity. Players have shown they get better under Sha in Year 2. But its all about who you replace him with.

Our GM is reaching out to a lot of 6'4-6'6" G/F types. A couple names we are familiar with and many low to mid-major guys - a few seem promising.

Jeremiah Johnson, Malachi Palmer, Caleb Williams, Kareem Thomas, Lewis Walker, Courtland Muldrew, Avery Thomas, Zion Sensley

Caleb Williams was offered $750k from UCF.

And so it begins … Would have been nice to hold onto him and get him in the gym to get stronger. He could have gotten a lot of minutes. He was outplaying Mike Williams the first half of the season. Guys like him could excel in his second BE year.

And Tajuan played 2 years at that school, and he still has eligibility left. I believe junior college no longer counts against D1 eligibility.
He redshirted his first year there and played 1 year there. As of this moment, there is no rule that JUCO does not count.

According to DucksWire, they're hopeful that Takai doesn't transfer and returns to Oregon so sounds like he still has a year of eligibility.

Can't think of one former pirate who portled then elevated their game at their new location.
Can think of plenty who went backwards in their development though..
All about the $$$ I know .To hell with development.

There are some, but that isn't a knock really on anything our staff did or did not do. A kid who leaves as a freshman/sophomore and is talented -- like a Jordan Walker -- gets better with age and the right situation.
