At the end of the day this is the same script this team has followed for a month. This team had a huge margin of error and is wasting opportunity after opportunity. Tonight was no different. It’s just the most difficult one because RU had a lead late. Great shot by Dredd and you aren’t getting that off the ball screen call. Will be interesting to see how things go rest of the way but this team has no one to blame but themselves.

The only reason this game was different than the rest of the other close losses is that Rutgers had a tiny lead late in the game. The other close games that come to mind were 1-2 possessions at Illinois and Maryland. It doesn’t cancel out the enormous hole they put themselves on the road no less. Things were so bad in the 1st half I think RU’s only clean shot was a McConnell jumper. Everything else seemed like a bank or a put back. Can’t win games on the road with 10-15 minutes of efficient offense and expect to win on the road. Again RU was miraculous to be in a position to possibly win in the first place.

Putrid. I know it's easy losing leads, so consequences happen. It's another nuance of something that really isn't new. Get everything right

The other sad fact, we have lost 8 road games to the B1G standings top 8 or tourney seeds #1-8 by a combined 46 pts, 5.75 per game.
Without MSU, 34 pts, 4.9. 1,3,5,5,6,6,8

It just sucks we haven't learned to finished one of these off, but at least Pike might have found his 5 at the end of games after fishing 8 road games for it. Young Geo Yeboah RHJ Myles. Possibly starters from here on out.

Hope someone on the Committee takes a peak at those stats and it becomes a tie breaker factor when comparing 2/3 teams resumes. It is such torture for us as fans of this year’s team.
The bigger issue I have now is the slow defensive starts, let’s leave the slow offensive starts for a later discussion. Last 3 first halves against Penn State , Wisconsin and Ohio State , we are not playing lock down defense especially from 3. You cannot say we are not capable because they turn it on in the second half and shut teams down. It even extends to Michigan first half at MSG and Northwestern at home for first 15 minutes. We leave Big 10 players unguarded from 3 , and they hit those daggers. Adjustments are made in the second half or we just get our energy level up because they do not want to be blown out, but very disappointed they cannot be made at each of the 4 minute timeouts in the first half.
I absolutely feel few teams in the country can beat us when we play our lock down defense against the 3. Pike has to live with guards getting in the lane and hitting two’s. Our ball side wings sag off their men for help team defense and cannot recover. We are too late closing out on the corner three. They all do it, I have seen Geo, Paul , Montez, Akwasi do it When they get caught in no man’s land and really would not be effective helping anyway. That is simple film study and should have been corrected by now. It especially hurt yesterday as we gave up absolutely no unguarded 3’s the entire second half until the Dread dagger as Akwasi was again worried about bumping Stevens instead of staying glued to Dread. Clearly an illegal screen but the refs do not have the guts to call that on the home team . It is such a damn shame after a comeback for the ages.

Great post and you nailed it when you said it should have been corrected by now. This stuff cropped up vs Bryant and St Bonnies and still here we are 2 games left and its still an issue. This is Coach but apparently those little adjustments will not be made

I think I now know what the movie Groundhog Day feels like in real life. It really is the same script with just a few of the details changing. While I don't plan on throwing myself in front of a Mack truck, it is emotionally difficult as a fan to keep seeing the same result.

After being totally dominated in the first half, we really had no right to expect what happened in the second. More on PSU than us I think.
But, yet another heart breaker on the road.

You are correct , because I did not see it live , St. Bonnies is another example. I just posted in the Young thread what I think Pike should do to correct.

Clueless post. We actually played defense in the same zip code as a Penn State player.

It is the recruiting. We have a team with very high character the bust their asses all the time, but we need more talent. Cannot go into prolonged scoring droughts almost every game.

the multitude of close losses may factor in a tiebreaker situation.
the NCAA is played on neutral sites, not at visiting arenas in the most difficult road conference in the country. RU will get a chance to prove their merit in the BTT.
A 20 point loss would have been glaring in the eyes of the committee, so the comeback is not in vain. It just needs to be followed up with a big win over Maryland.
Then, take it from there

Margin of defeat definitely comes into play when it comes down to the nitty-gritty of team selection. Let's say there are five teams competing for the final two berths in the tourney. If three of the teams have numerous blowout losses and two of the teams have just a couple the committee will favor the teams who are more competitive, i.e., those with few blowout losses and many close losses.

here is an example...although I think ASU is in the field...they lost at a supposed neutral site to St Marys by 40 points and also lost at Arizona by 38...wtf

It's amazing that, after 29 games, our largest margin of defeat is still only 12 points (77-65 against MSU, and we were "in" that game until the last few minutes, when MSU pulled away). Just about every other team, bubble or not, has suffered at least one blowout of 15 or 20 or more points.

This has to count for something.
