Last year I felt he lost the team and he proved me wrong. This time I think the team just had a lot of issues that it could not overcome. Esa being one of those. The stat someone posted of like 15-1 without and 8 and 7 with and that was with Carter and Miles. This year, it shows just how bad and complacent he really was. Don't know what happened to him, but I am sure there will be others go as well.

All you need to know about Huggins:

3 losing seasons in 38 years.

He didn't get stupid overnight.

Are you at least concerned? He keeps laying this sh*t at the doorsteps of his assistants' when he says "I signed off on these guys". It's not hard to imagine Huggs becoming complacent and perhaps a little lazy on the recruiting end of things. He appears to be going to see some of these JUCO players in person so that is a good thing but aside from the needed roster cleaning, the assistants should not be safe if they were responsible for this train wreck. My beef with local writers is that they would rather stay on the good side of the coach than ask the tough questions that need to be asked. There is a way to pose a probing question without being incendiary...something that goes beyond "Coach, what did you see out there tonight?" Greg Hunter is easily filling the void of Furfari's late-life uselessness.

You really want to kick a walk on off the team...

Your are better than that.
Just as long as the walk on leads by example. First in the gym and last out is all that matters.
Pretty much he is a walk on until you find another walk on who can take his spot.

When you walk-on, the HC and the coach who brought you in will tell you what's expected of you. If you meet expectations, you get another year. If you don't work out, they'll see that you land at a school more suited to the level of your talents if you want to continue playing basketball. Basketball is tough due to the limited spots and floor minutes. You've got to make your bones in practice and be well liked to stick.

I think AAU ball has done a lot for elite players, but for average and below players it retards their overall game as those teams rarely play defense. When Joe "One and Done" comes down the lane, these less talented kids should be told to clothesline him, he won't be driving again. Freshmen of all levels of talent used to know how to handle elite players coming in, knock the crap out of him. It was the reason you brought in that walk-on the size of a house.

Football is easier to get a scholly coming from a walk-on position as there are 22 spots. It's easy for the average fan to determine who's moving up by watching who the scout and special teams champions are. If you see an invited walk-on dominating the scout team awards, keep an eye on him. He won't be a walk-on for long.

Horton started a game for WV because Bob Huggins said he was the hardest worker on the floor in practice.

Horton is the ideal walk on if that is the case because he will make the scholarship players fear for their jobs.
Like with anything....you are going to respond from pressure or not.

In football....
It is easier and more walk ons have went on to be drafted.

But you still need great evaluation overseeing that program.
One of the changes at Texas that Tom Herman brought is the PWO program. Jordan and Jaxon Shipley's Dad is running it. He is a former HS coach in Texas.
So far he has brought in 25 players that are bringing the floor up.
Something Texas never had. Something that aggy is famous for.
Their starting FullBack was a walkon and even earned the #12 jersey this year.

Horton has never started a game for WVU. Your research sucks.

You really want to worry what I want. Considering you're a dumb *** hick from Texas. One that shouldn't be here.

Horton has never started a game.

Even if he didn't end up starting that game Huggins used him as an example.

Walk ons are there to make the team better.
If that is what Horton is doing...I don't see why you kick him off.
Just as long as he is the hardest worker on the team. Is in the gym and the weight room longer than everyone else.

Practice or not he still sucks. Pride quit posting as a Texas Troll.

He is a freshman walk on....

Kicking him off the team only works if you have a walk on who is better.
Don't know how many walk ons you can have.
Think it may be 2-3.

I think Oklahoma State could use Horton right now.

They can have him. But he will probably end up at Fairmont riding the bench where Pride can tell everyone what a miss on Horton the staff made.

Given the wide range of walk-on statuses, and the fact each program uses walk-ons differently, there is no single way to best describe it.

Playing time is harder to come by. There is no denying the fact that a coach is going to have a bias toward playing the athletes who are given scholarship money. You will have to earn your time by first proving it in practice and through your limited game time.

Thing is did he come in as a Preferred Walk-On. This is the highest status as a walk-on. You are guaranteed a spot on the team and are going to receive all the support of normal scholarship athletes. If you aren’t receiving preferred status, that simply means your position on the team isn’t guaranteed.

You might not receive the full support of the athletic department. Depending on what type of walk-on you are, you might not have access to the same academic and training support of scholarship athletes. If you are a preferred or recruited walk-on, you likely won’t experience this, but unrecruited walk-ons might not have access to things like preferred enrollment.

Some athletes feel they are treated unfairly. No conversation about walk-ons can avoid the fact some athletes think they are treated as second-class members of the team. Mostly it has to do with issues around playing and practice time. While this is far less common, it can happen and it is usually experienced by the unrecruited walk-ons.

When you do break though, success will be sweeter. Earning your spot on a college team will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. Walking on is very challenging, but when it works out, there is nothing better.

In my opinion Horton is not working out. He may practice hard. But that practice hard is not translating into ability on the court.

He is freshman.
Texas had scholarship 4 star freshman the last two years who didn't provide much on the court
Royce Hamm Jr
Gerald Liddell

So far I have seen the maturity in Hamm since he has been in the program for a year and a half.

You can't expect a freshman walk on to provide on the court
Maybe as a junior or senior if he continues to practice hard in the gym and in the weight room.

I have said before I coached at a High School for a few years in football.
Was around the basketball program.
The coaches in the off-season would open in the gym at 7 in the morning and used to take note on what players who showed up.

Come October when they were filling out the final roster spots...
Those are the ones who were on the varsity team.

Nobody asked you about Texas. This is your problem. You post more about a team that nobody gives 2 farts about instead of talking WVU sports. Which this is a WVU SPORTS BOARD!!! Now go to a Texas board.

I don't care if Horton flies to Cal and plays. IMO he sucks and is a waist of space. There are better walk on players. It's my opinion. You don't like it then leave the board, Greg, pride aka what ever 25 profiles you use.

I propose a truce. We need to get back to the matter at hand which is pounding on Cuyahoga for miscounting the number of years that Huggins has coached.
