Maurice Washington
had a preliminary examination setting in California on Thursday morning, but the proceedings didn't move far. The case was continued to Dec. 12, still in the stages of deciding when a preliminary examination would take place. A preliminary examination hearing would have the court hearing evidence to decide if the case should go to trial.

Wondering now if this will even get resolved before he graduates. Can't believe things drag out like this. It was the right decision, IMO, to let him play this season since no resolution seems on the horizon. They are still waiting to decide if there's enough evidence to even go to trial. Good lord, no wonder California is so screwed up. (Sorry to offend anyone from California!)

If they can't figure it out by now, they ought to just drop the case and move on.

Why does the result of the trial determine his current status to play football? From what I understand, the revenge charges don’t exist in NE law. No one denies he was in possession of the video, sent the video, or wrote the text message. You have enough information to determine if you want Washington to represent the huskers.

Delay requested by defense or state?

To me this isn't even about representing the Huskers. The bigger issue is resolving such an issue in a timely manner so people can move on. That applies whether you're a football player or just a nobody.

The Huskers have determined that they want Washington to represent the Huskers.

LOL at you for creating an account just to bash on Mo.

The evidentiary standard to bind a defendant over for trial is not substantial: Contrary to the extraordinary results achieved by the great Perry Mason, the State almost always meets their burden of proof at this stage of a criminal proceeding.

The delay might reflect a case backlog or it might indicate that the parties are close to a plea agreement. It is highly unlikely that the State does not have the minimal evidence necessary to prove probable cause.

That's the stated purpose of the hearing they keep postponing. I don't think most people appreciate what a small potatoes thing this case is to a prosecutor in that jurisdiction. The intent of both of the laws he's being charged with violating was NOT the kind of thing he did. Unfortunately for him he's caught in the snare of the language of the laws. He was not sharing "kiddie porn" and he was not distributing a video publicly to harm his ex assuming he even sent the video. There remains a question of whether or not they even have physical evidence that the specific video was even sent.

Just curious because earlier in the year I had commented on the continuation and delays because I THOUGHT it was the prosecutor that was delaying. I got raked over the coals for it on this forum that I didn't know what I was talking about and that it was Frost, mo and his attorney seeking the delay. Which to me, I found strange. HOWEVER, to be fair, I couldn't find anything in print that backed up my perspective. So I am not sure anymore on any of that. Thus, my question. Is it in fact the prosecutor that's filing the continuations? Seems pretty fruitless to keep going out there only to keep coming home without any progress or closure one way or another.

I really don’t think he is making this trips every time. His PD is there, if they decide to move forward at the Pretrial stage, he will then need to be present. But at this stage of the case, they will have the hearing to determine if they will move on. At that time they will set a date in the future to argue the merits of the case.

I just checked ... the big ten championship game is Dec 7 so this shouldn’t impact his availability.

Make sure Mo Barry is made aware of this information.

“Nobody is going to care about Colorado when we are in the Big Ten Championship," Barry said.

There is still a mathematical chance.

He wont be a husker by the next court date anyway so, I'm done worrying about it.
I've missed something here. Speculation? I know he had another half game suspension and his body language was questionable after the NW game. Are you hearing something or connecting dots? My buddies and I have had the opinion that we think it's doubtful he's on the roster next year.

Failed drug test and a bad attitude will get you sent packing, just wonder when it will officially be announced?

Actually, the reason Perry Mason always presented a case at the hearing and got somebody to fess up before going to trial was because CBS wanted to save money by not having to pay extras to sit in a jury box.

What headache? Just asking... not arguing

Outside of his legal troubles I’ve heard he’s prone to throwing tantrums. The staff has given him every opportunity at this point. I don’t see this ending well even if they decide to retain him.

Not a surprise. He went AWOL in high school as well, and ended up getting expelled a month before graduation. This article shows he hasn't grown up at all since high school:

You guys keep repeating a rumor started by a troll from another fan base. He started the same one over on Huskermax. Frost has announced within 24 hours all other suspensions from the team so until Frost says something I would stop.

Don't recall him announcing either of Mo's half games.

What seems to be the case at this point is that Washington's physical upside is limited. He's looking like one of those guys who can't really put on weight so long term you would have to move him to WR because he can't bang inside as an RB.

So his value gets knocked down there because RB > Slot WR for every team not named the Patriots. Now you put him at a position with fewer chances to get the ball and more chances to check out mentally. Feels like a bad prognosis for a kid with his temperament issues.

If he gets his life right you'd love to see him as a solid contributor and dangerous WR/KR type. If nothing else it would be just another top-of-the-list guy from a recruiting class who didn't stick around.
