If you are a fan of Rutgers basketball for the past 25 years and you reflect on the impact players have had on the program Jacob is near the top.
This is 100% true but as a counterpoint we've had literally one tournament team (and one other tournament quality team, to be fair) out of all of those. So this doesn't so much mean Jacob is elite so much as the competition is.. not.

I'm not anti-JY as a player, to be clear. But I don't think he is nearly as elite as a faction of this board thinks. And I think Pike did a tremendous job of reigning in his bad traits in order to take advantage of what he does do at an elite level.

Far from horribly misused here, I think we got a ton out of him. With a worse coach he turns the ball over 5 times a game and plays 15 minutes.. like the beginning of the 2019-20 season.

Jacob is by no means elite. He has warts. Ugly ones. There are many NCAA teams he would have a reduced role. He meant a ton to 20-21 RU.

At most schools a rebuild season is expected and understandable every few seasons (except a few reload blue bloods) when star players go pro or run out of eligibility. If it ends up being the case that “RU badly feels the loss of JY” that will be a punch line you’d hear over and over again from announcers calling our games.

Put yourself in a recruits position - do you think they think of it the same when a star player moves on to go pro versus choosing to play college ball somewhere else? I hope I’m wrong and recruits typically don’t give this distinction a fleeting thought. That seems like an awfully Scarlet coated view on this one - I mean it’s a big life decision for them. Think about it - if you were considering a new job and found out that the person you would be replacing resigned for a lateral position at another less prestigious firm wouldn’t you wonder why? Would you not view it differently from a person leaving for a role that was a major title promotion - in which case you wouldn’t give it a second thought right?

Hopefully it’s just me and these kids don’t care about these things because In that situation - JY’s departure would again be spotlighted during the Oregon March Madness games (there would be frequent references considering Oregon would have 2 former RU players starting). Better yet - let’s go 19-12 or better rather than 12-19 and put this entire concern to bed.

I can't presume to know how a 16-18 year old might think wrt players transferring. In my current experience with a 16 year old son who is a big RU BBall fan - when he peels himself away from Soccer, Swimming, Homework, TikTok, Instagram, his friends, eating, chores, his job, Instagram and Video Games - there is little time left for much else to focus on anything - and the main method of following of sports is generally limited to highlights on is phone. I suspect that mentions of JY as a previous player at RU by announcers during broadcast "filler" time would have very little impact if any on a potential recruit's choice of programs.

Really? Of the last 5 NCAA tournaments that were played, they have made four and made it to at least the sweet sixteen in all of them. Including an elite eight run and a final four run.
I do think so. Let’s see how they do this year in a very weak during the season conference. Did great this last tournament but don’t believe it’s sustainable.

He was a turnover waiting to happen during his 1st couple of years
here. Raw as the day is long. Pike and his staff smoothed out the rough edges and handed Oregon a much more refined player. Let's not
have too much selective amnesian
we have a bingo ladies, and gents............JY was bad mouthed a whole lot on this board for the better part of two years,,,,,like " get him out of there pike"..do you remember boys... .having three ex starting point guards as your coaches helped JY, tone down his rough edges, and was quite obvious in year three............now if JY would humble himself, and acknowledge this fact ....it might soften the blow.........maybe, this is just what i think did happen......if it's true....man up JY , and give credit where credit is due.
