Great job by the defense tonight - anymore it’s really difficult to shutout anyone!!
That 4th & Goal from the 1 was HUGE!!!!

Not only that, 1 penalty! When is the last time we’ve said that?Great job by the defense tonight - anymore it’s really difficult to shutout anyone!!

How many cracks did they have from the one? Was it 3 plays from the 1?Great job by the defense tonight - anymore it’s really difficult to shutout anyone!!

The only camera we saw was from an angle... maybe from the 5 yard line or so. He may have been in but I don’t know how you make that call with that camera angle. The goal line stand was cool, though I'm pretty sure they got the TD on 3rd down. Unless the camera angle was able to bend space-time, the ball looked over the goal line.
It was close, close enough that if they called it a TD, they would have let it stand. That said, that’s a stand Nebraska hasn’t had against anyone in years. The only camera we saw was from an angle... maybe from the 5 yard line or so. Loved seeing both the Daniels brothers in during that goal line stand. They didn't give up any ground. It was close, close enough that if they called it a TD, they would have let it stand. That said, that’s a stand Nebraska hasn’t had against anyone in years.
I get what you’re saying, but no TD’s given-up counts as a shutout by the D in my book.8 points isn't a shutout. That being said, they're much further along this year than I expected they would be. We have been strong in the secondary, even while dealing with injuries and we don't have as many glaring weaknesses as we've had the past few years.
I think if given a time to rest, this defense is great.Loved seeing both the Daniels brothers in during that goal line stand. They didn't give up any ground.
I don’t even think the defense was situationally bad there. It’s the bright spot, along with random athletic players on offense.Other than the second half of the Colorado game, which I chalk up to just being tired due to the ineptitude of the offense, the defense has been great this year.
The offense looked better tonight, but it was NIU. I look forward to see what happens in Big Ten play next week.
A shutout is 0 points by definition. Giving up 8 points should never count as a shutout.I get what you’re saying, but no TD’s given-up counts as a shutout by the D in my book.
5 of those were credit to the offense at least.A shutout is 0 points by definition. Giving up 8 points should never count as a shutout.
Most people that like Jessie Ventura and hate Iowa. Can’t do it. Chin sucks, so some say.

Not to mention you couldn't tell exactly where the line was anyway when the camera angle wasn't right on the line. That's one you should let the call stand, which is what they did. No clear and convincing evidence to overturn it.He bobbled it and didn’t have control.
Whatever makes you sleep better.A shutout is 0 points by definition. Giving up 8 points should never count as a shutout.

Actually, if you want to get technical (and apparently you do), the defense didn’t give-up a single point tonight - our special teams allowed two field goals (ie. 6 points) and our offense had a safety (ie. 2 points). Are you really arguing against an indisputable fact?
It must be tough that you can’t disprove indisputable facts.Stupid is as stupid does, but you’ve got the math skills of a 2nd grader going for you, so keep up the good fight Forrest!
Shutouts are a team effort. If it's the offense's fault, defense, special teams, it doesn't matter. The definition of a shutout is 0 points given up to the opponent. By the way, the defense put our offense in bad field position several times that they couldn't always overcome. Shutouts are incredibly hard to achieve. If any Alabama fans read this thread they'd be laughing their asses off thinking we pitched a shutout while giving up 8 points.Actually, if you want to get technical (and apparently you do), the defense didn’t give-up a single point tonight - our special teams allowed two field goals (ie. 6 points) and our offense had a safety (ie. 2 points).
6 + 2 = 8
Care to try again?
That is something I've never thought about. The defense gets off the field when the other team decides to kick a field goal. It is up to special teams to disrupt it...Actually, if you want to get technical (and apparently you do), the defense didn’t give-up a single point tonight - our special teams allowed two field goals (ie. 6 points) and our offense had a safety (ie. 2 points).

The title of my thread, as well as all of the commentary within was specific to the defense. Never once did I say that we ‘pitched a shutout’ in this game, in-fact I explicitly described how NIU scored 8 points against us - 6 points on special teams and 2 points with their own defense. The NIU offense scored 0 points.Shutouts are a team effort. If it's the offense's fault, defense, special teams, it doesn't matter. The definition of a shutout is 0 points given up to the opponent. If special teams blocks a punt or field goal and returns it for a TD, nobody would ever credit the defense for scoring that TD.That is something I've never thought about. The defense gets off the field when the other team decides to kick a field goal. It is up to special teams to disrupt it...
I say let em wear the black jerseys next weekI get what you’re saying, but no TD’s given-up counts as a shutout by the D in my book.
I say let em wear the black jerseys next week
Just my opinion, but it looked like the view we were getting was not directly on the goal line but a touch forward (towards the field) I think it threw off the angle and made it look like the ball crossed when in reality it didn't. I don't know if the ref were using that same footage we saw. If they were, then yes that should have been a TD.The goal line stand was cool, though I'm pretty sure they got the TD on 3rd down. Unless the camera angle was able to bend space-time, the ball looked over the goal line.
