I’m sure I missed it on here, but just asked my rep about the status of the SHU tickets (asked him awhile ago and said he would let me know). Anyways his response was that RU didn’t receive an allotment for this game!! Total BS. Hope we do the same next year.

You did, in 2019.
Did the schools totally shut out the other school? I know it was closed to the general public, but normally a small amount is given to the visitors for admins, family, “uncles” , etc. Did RU and SHU really shut everyone out?

That is my understanding ... or at least a staggering reduction from the typical allotment -- like only enough for the team's immediate circle.

As I posted in another thread, it's complete bush league not to open up the upper level. I agree you hold back single game tix to general public until your season ticket holders have ample time to purchase extra's.

But once that's over, not opening the upper level, after you've already done it for Nova and Cuse, and assuming demand is there, in NJ bball biggest rivalry game, is b.s.

Hoping it's not true and just rumor as SHU is better than that, and fans deserve better than that.

It's a Sunday night, there won't be enough demand to fill the upper level. The only school SHU consistently opens it for is Villanova and reality is that RU is nowhere near their level.

Edit to add, Nova also returns the favor in hosting SHU at the Wells Fargo Center. So the accomodations go both ways

the RUAA has a block of tickets they are organizing an alumni event around for the game.

$85 for game ticket, pre-game tailgate in a suite within Prudential including food + a ticket for a drink ... pretty good deal if you ask me.

I don't know the metrics of demand being there vs. demand not being there, granted a Sunday night 7 pm tip off coupled w/RU's inept play certainly dampens the pre-season enthusiasm

Why they're playing it on a Sunday night also baffles me (I'm assuming it has to do w/the Devils schedule)

Devils schedule isn't an issue, my guess is it's that both teams play Thursday and didn't want to play it on 1 day of rest.

That said, while I don't think that demand is there to justify it, I also don't think they would have opened the upper deck even if it was prime time Saturday. Home court is supposed to be a competitive advantage and when the opponent is a school 4x your size less than 30 minutes away, all you're doing by doubling your arena capacity is accommodating the visitor, which nobody would do.

Yet they would have done it in the 90s when Hall was rolling w PJ et al

I get why not based on home court advantage,

So what’s in it for RU to continue the series then?

Assuming demand was there, Hall wound have opened it for ~ 30 years (the late 80s/2010ish). Was at the CAA in 2005 and the whole thing was opened

Now that RU is on the rise, Hall flips the script and says no? Straight little league

I think the complaining about the upper deck not being opened just helps the rivalry lol. I'll be there (in blue, sorry) since I have a season ticket but it's going to be a very hot ticket and great atmosphere as always.

On the rise? Ha. We've been beating the tar out of you at the Rock for a decade now and the top has never been open, so RU's up year last year is irrelevant to it. CAA didn't have the option to curtain anything off and sure, they filled it to back when SHU was among the elite, but once that changed it became very evident that CAA was too big for SHU (and really for all but a handful of college basketball teams).

Relax homie

You guys have been better for the last 30 years - congrats

You’ve got one final 4 banner, 2 rented arena’s and 1/4 the fan base we do

Let’s pump the breaks w the grandiose arrogance - you had your shot to be on top for years w PJ, then w the 2000 team
Those days are likely over

Can you be at Nova’s level?
Doubtful - they’d rather pour $ into their on campus facility then rent out a hockey arena

Will we be a contender in the B1G in the years to come? Certainly remains to be seen

But relax w pumping your chest, on another schools board, when your brand is a fraction of what is was 20 years ago, and when there’s no tangible evidence you’ll get back to PJ’s level anytime in our lifetimes

I'm only disputing ridiculous claims, such as the the reason SHU won't open is that Rutgers is good. It's very easy to point out that SHU has never opened the upper level of the Rock for RU, even when they were good and RU was terrible, so clearly that ain't it.

Man, that South Orange reading comprehension needs some work

I said if demand warranted it (again, I’m not in the Smurf ticket office so I don’t have statistics), and the curtain remained closed, that’s ********

Of course you’ve never done it for Rutgers. They’ve largely sucked for the past 12 years you’ve rented the Devils arena

Counterpoint: it's smart. Rutgers has what, 5x + the student body of Seton Hall? SHU's entire student body would maybe fill half the Prudential Center. Obviously, that leads to RU having a much bigger fan base. SHU's biggest fans already have tickets through their season ticket packages, so opening the upper level would simply be for accomodating the visitors, which would be foolish. When school the size of Rutgers barely fills an 8k arena, its silly to expect a school the size of SHU fill an 18k arena.

Not denying it’s smart on SHU part
Missing out on $ though
Saying as a fan, it’s bs

Prob a moot point BC of previously mentioned factors, but if / when both teams are good, and if demand is there, to not open the upper level is absurd

I agree that would make for an awesome atmosphere, but SHU isn't going to turn its home game effectively into a neutral court when the RAC doesn't have the capacity to do the same. The only way we'll see that atmosphere is if they play at a neutral venue and split the tickets 50/50. Unfortunately, there's not another suitable venue in NJ. They can put the GSHC logo at midcourt, split the ticket and call the Rock a neutral court, but NET will still view it as a SHU home game. I'm not sure either school would really be happy with moving to that arrangement.

I was thinking if you add the shu student body to the Rutgers student body It would be a lot easier to fill our 8,000 seat arena, let alone the NJ devils arena. But then I caught myself… what was I thinking?🤔 The 14 shu students that would actually get into Rutgers really wouldn’t make a difference In our attendance anyway 😉😂

My understanding is that Seton Hall now offers significant academic scholarships for top students. The average standardized test scores have gone up at Seton Hall in recent years. I have degrees from both Rutgers and Seton Hall. I did not find either school to be academically superior although they did offer very different college experiences.

Both schools are tier one schools . Personal preference big state schools or small private schools .
