SHU Baseball - Ugh

After a 16-30, 3-18 season, the All-Big East teams are out and SHU couldn’t manage a single selection - 28 players in all!

It‘s one thing to not be able to compete with Southern schools, but Big East baseball isn’t good at all and SHU can‘t even compete with peers that it used to be head and shoulders above.

How much more can the other schools be investing in baseball? The answer to the problems seem to be elsewhere.

In basketball we are at a major disadvantage due to NIL. That's the only sport in our very limited offering that we should struggle with.

Haven't been over .500 in conference since 2023.

I think it is time to move on from Sheppard. He has now been the head coach for 21 or 22 seasons, and he has had a losing season in 4 of last 5 years.
We have not been consistently good since the end of the old BE/start of new BE which was a run from 2011-2014. Haven't been to NCAA tourney since 2011.

It's a bummer. There is talent in the area. Our baseball team and soccer teams used to be good every year. A few years back our lady's volleyball team and mens golf teams were good too. Unfortunate that all the resources have to go to our signature program now and the other sports are left behind.

That’s not quite acceptable, when they can’t even compete in baseball or anything else with practically every other Big East school in practically every other sport. Those schools are supposed to be considered equals, but it’s not working out that way. Goes beyond resources.

Too incestuous, too small time IMO. Lots of cronyism.

Imagine running a company with these types of diminishing returns; there would be significant changes or at least actions to modify whatever is going wrong. The place acts like it doesn’t care and simply status quo.

Golf had success on paper but that was a bit smoke and mirrors

No idea. If I had to guess I’d say it is no way near what they spend on basketball yet they are still one of the top programs in the country. SH baseball has a long list of successful alumni. If $ is the only issue you’d think they’d be working on those relationships to be competitive at least.

Providence loses at least $2 million a year on hockey. But there’s also examples like Butler, Nova and Gtown throwing a ton of $$$$ into FCS football.

SHU does spend money on its non-revenue sports. Just look at all the trips the baseball team takes. It goes deeper. Where’s the return? They can’t have even one of the top 28 players in a lousy baseball conference?
