I read one of the articles stating that the university knew about this incident sometime in the fall.

But the article didn't say when in the fall (was it in August or October) nor did it say how much detail the university knew or had of the incident. I'm guessing the coaches knew what the university knew.

"The Nebraska athletic department said in a statement Monday that it had been contacted by the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police Department regarding the investigation.

“Last fall we were ... made aware that officials in California were interested in interviewing Maurice Washington about a prior incident,” the athletic department statement read. “Details were not shared and there was no additional follow-up with the Nebraska Athletic Department. Recently, we were made aware that charges may be filed against Maurice in California. We have not had a chance to review the charges, and will continue to monitor this ongoing legal process.”

Athletic Director Bill Moos said Tuesday during a radio interview that Nebraska was “inquisitive” upon learning of the situation involving Washington but “there wasn’t a lot of conversation that went any further than, ‘We have a concern and something happened in California and we’ll keep you informed.’ That’s how it panned out.”

You know about 90% on here feel the same about you. So there is that. I really don't care what you think or what you think of me and my opinions. You contribute nothing to this board and only look to insult and annoy anyone you don't agree with. You are child. Move along kid and let the big boys talk about big boy topics. Ignore is a wonderful tool people I suggest you use it on this dude.

Uh...no, because I have basic common sense. People tend to appreciate basic common sense and pragmatism. You, on the other hand, struggle to form basic sentences. WTF is "You are child?" Is it similar to "Me Tarzan, you Jane?" Have you gone full Neanderthal?

When you start making sense, I'll start supporting your views. But you've yet to do so on this topic. It's as if you took David Byrne's message seriously and "Stopped Making Sense."

Great debate is...are/were the Talking Heads amazing and genius or were they really just another band. I could really support both sides.

I don't understand why people are making this personal. No need for the personal attacks.
There are some on here who only know how to attack. They don't know how to have a grown up conversation with people who view things differently. That is society now days. If you don't agree with something someone thinks or believes, attack them, belittle them by any mean necessary. Thankfully most on here know how to act mature and have an adult discussion on topics they disagree on.

I get that line of thinking, but is it really any different than getting caught drinking at a party a month before turning 21 and getting hit with an MIP? Or getting pulled over for speeding a month before you turn 16 and getting busted for driving without a license? We can always make an excuse for someone being within a few months of a date, but the fact is we have dates and thresholds. I really don't care what the punishment is, I am just tired of everyone finding a reason to excuse the behavior or blame everyone and everything except Washington. HE had the video, HE kept the video, HE sent the video. HE must face the consequences.

I agree with most of what you said, but this one is a felony where what you listed (MIP, etc) are misdemeanors. The kid is an idiot, and should be punished, but I do tend to agree with the comments that he isn't a 45 year old guy that has kiddee porn on his phone. The term child porn doesn't really fit for me here even though it is the correct language. At the end of the day, he did break a law and needs punished.

Again, I am not saying the ignored the situation, I do believe that they only asked the minimum from law enforcement, or the DA, knowing that they wouldn't be able to tell them much. Not digging into any further, allows them plausible deniability in the event this went sideways for Washington. That way they can put out statements like they did yesterday, claiming they didn't know specifics.
Because they DIDNT know specifics, nor could they have.

You seem set on making Frost and the athletic dept look like dark villians who dont care what their players do.
Replace plausible deniability with actual deniability as well.
There was no warrant for his arrest in the fall, or a court order to appear, etc. While investigations are going on, especially in regards to minors, authorities arent supposed to volunteer information to people like frost, who are essentially meaningless to the law here. They arent lawyers. There are legal and also procedural reasons not to.
And lets not pretend that when the athletic dept heard washington was being investigated by authorities, that they were supposed to immediately ask, "Is it for child porn? Will you tell us if he sent a revenge video to his minor ex?" That would be absurd.
This seems like an extreme, and biased, example of 20/20 on your part.

Of course, if it comes out, further than he said/she said or what you personally believe, that frost did know all of this and did know that he actually did it I will take this back.

(But even then, what can he do that satisfies the press when he cant give information out about an investigation...but i digress, doesnt matter).

Which makes absolute legal and investigative sense. Bill Moos and Scott Frost have no legal authority. They are essentially mentors or random people in Mos life when it comes to the law, no different than the RA in his dorm. Theres no reason for authorities to volunteer information about an ongoing investigation to these guys, nor should they. Its not legal and could infringe upon the investigation, even.

Maybe this has been mentioned already but if Mo sent the video back in March 2018 then he would have been a high school kid at the time? He’s looking at being labeled a sex offender because he possessed and forwarded a video of a high school girl while he was still in high school himself!

Sheesh!

It seems he has officially been charged with possession of child porn. Though no arrest warrant has been issued.
My humble opinion is no. This is sounding more and more like his ex had a threesome, the boys spread it around to friends to brag. Mo being one of them one of those who was sent the video. She got caught and now to save embarrassment is claiming assault. The video should easily be able to tell if she was willing or not.
He tried to get back with her, she said she is not interested, he gets pissed. Sends the video and calls her a hoe.
This was a horribly stupid decision on his part. However, I would venture to guess if you go on any 14- 17 males phones you would find some sort of "child porn" on a high percentage of them. Mo shouldn't be labeled a sex offender for the rest of his life, nor have to suffer the rest of his life for a stupid teenage decision.

I hope a booster gives Mo's uncle money for a private investigator.

Yes, turns out there are no exceptions in the law because someone is a high school student, they simply base it off a birthdate.

I believe they are mandatory reporters under the state law, I know contractually they have more responsibilities than the RA in the dorm.

With that said, I don’t think it would apply to this case.

There is no way they could have asked Washington what happened when he was expelled from high school shortly after the incident occurred and they were in the middle of the recruiting process? I assure you they were aware on some level of issues last spring. To what level we will likely never know as you mentioned due to privacy laws.

This thread is on thin ice. One thing I have learned is that this subject is just like politics. 19+ pages in and nobody has had their mind changed. Oh, and a couple idiots have decided to bring politics into this argument again. The same thing that got the other one locked. And personal attacks. There have been a few of those too.

I have done some more looking into this. From what I understand. If anyone of any age is caught with sexually explicit pictures of anyone under 18. Technically They could be charged with Possession of Child Porn. Im assuming if the person with it is over 18 that charges are file more frequently than those who are younger. I thought the person had to be over 18 to be charged. So in theory if a girl is a day away from turning 18, sends her 17 year old BF a her butt pic and he is caught with in on his phone. He could be charged with possession of child porn.

However it goes down. This should involve Moos and Frost should have no part in this decision. Moos as A.D. , this is his wheelhouse. As cynical as this may seem, HC Frost needs to stay above reproach.

Just like politics, no amount of arguing or facts is going to change the other sides mind. I enjoy debating and seeing others peoples point of view. Although I may not agree with them, I still like to see what they have to say and respect their opinions and thoughts as long as they to are respectful of others views. Start a 1 week ban for any personal attacks or insults. No warning. That would end it pretty quickly.

Could he have lied?
Was he expelled specifically for this?
And if he was, was it shared that he specifically did this exact thing?
Because Remember, this is coming to the news now for a reason. An official court order/charge wasnt made until now. Which means this wasnt made public by authorities until now. So its entirely realistic that no one officially knew Mo sent revenge child porn to his ex gf in california.
It honestly seems like a huge jump to assume people did know these things.

I believe this is technically right. There are HS kids on the sex offender list for doing stuff like this. I hope it doesn’t happen to MW, but you don’t have to be 18+ to be charged with child porn, etc.

I don’t know, but the school has said it wasn’t an academic issue that they kicked him out for. If Scott didn’t undercover as much as he could then he didn’t do his job correctly. If Washington lied about the circumstances then that presents another issue. Maybe, hopefully they were completely unrelated, but we’ve been working off of opinion and conjecture since the beginning.

Im not saying how I think he should be dealt with by the law if found guilty...however, I do wish we would stop pretending this is the same as a friendly game of phone tag between unassuming, curious minors.

Seems like a lot more conjecture to assume Frost knew or should have known, considering authorities themselves would have had no reason to tell him the details. Just saying.

So you are of the opinion that the district attorney, an investigator, and the local California police all contacted the university of Nebraska and after being told that one of their football players was a person of interest in said investigation, that Moos and Frost just said oh ok, that’s interesting. Then sat there until 3 days ago?

If you don’t think Frost and Moos has Washington in their offices grilling him about what it could be, you are naive. Or if you don’t think there was some back channel, off the record calls made to people in California or some calling in of favors to find out what they may be dealing with, I don’t know what to tell you.

I am not saying they are doing anything wrong with how they handled it publicly but to think they knew nothing and weren’t aware that this could go sideways is a bit far fetched.

Good job arguing hyperbole...let me ask...what % do you think it is?

It is probably better than 50%. My nephew was dating a girl his junior year. They were exchanging pics, while they were dating. He broke up with her before his senior year. She was still sending him inappropriate photos until he was almost 20. Never had cell phones when I was kid.

And what Mo did and the 45 year old perv did are 2 different things as well.
But there is no difference in the eyes of the law. If that 45 year old perv had 1 video he would be charged with 1 count of possession of child porn under 18 U.S.C. § 2252- Certain activities relating to material involving the sexual exploitation of minors
(Possession, distribution and receipt of child pornography) Same as Mo with his 1 video. Although in context both a very very different. If convicted both would have to register as sex offenders.

I don’t see how you got that, at all, from what I wrote. I just agreed that one does not even have to be an adult to be charged with child pornography or become a sex offender.

Yep, and here were Moos’ words on the situation on his radio show the other night:

“Last fall we were contacted by the Nebraska Attorney General’s office and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln police department and made aware that officials in California were interested in interviewing Maurice Washington about a prior incident. Details were not shared and there was no additional follow up with the Nebraska Athletic Department. Recently, we were made aware that charges may be filed against Maurice in California. We have not had a chance to review the charges, and will continue to monitor this ongoing legal process.”

I wonder if the school hires investigators to vet certain prospects or employees. The reputation of the school could be damaged so easily in today's environment.

I say this because the school seems to be backing Maurice. This makes me think they know more than what has been revealed. Also, I wonder how old the D.A. is for the county. Is he young and climbing or old and staunch

However this turns out, I don't think Maurice is a sex offender or dangerous felon. He made a terrible decision. I don't think his future should be thrown away because of it.
